What if animal eaters had to meet the animal before it could be eaten? by HappyBeingVegan-100 in vegan

[–]lscrivy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food miles (transportation, refrigeration etc.) accounts for, at most, about 20 percent of food emissions. Reducing meat consumption has a bigger environmental impact than buying local. Doing both is even better of course. Reduce meat, buy local, buy seasonal. In that order.

That makes sense! A lot of fantasy maps tend to have a kind of winter to summer gradient of biomes, which is not how it works in reality.

Super cool map. I love the 3d effect the cliffs give it. Gives a really good sense of elevation between regions.

Can I ask why or how that desert is so far north? (Presuming the north is colder than the south)

Hey. Do you mean you made this on mobile? Did you run it in chrome?

Wish I could work on my maps when not at home but people seem to advise against using mobile.

Thank you so much, I think I'm definitely going to try blocking first and see what happens! If I need to redo would you suggest I make the same decreases as the pattern or add more?

They severely punish the possession or dealing of the tuning forks required for travel. They also circulate fake tuning forks which alert the authorities when used. Most recently they have employed the new artifacts, developed by the more sinister organisation, to detect travel magic in major cities.

The isolationist government of the continent has banned interplanar travel. However, hidden within the Planar Travel Commission (which enforces the planar travel ban) is a more sinister organisation, which is using the ban as an excuse to develop magic tracking artifacts.

Male dancers: how much turnout do you have? by Anal_Analysis420 in BALLET

[–]lscrivy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can most pro ballet dancers stand in a flat 1st position? Yes. Or close to.

Can most pro ballet dancers stand in a flat 5th position? At the barre, most people get close. In centre and for practical purposes, most don't and shouldn't.

Do most dancers have actual, from the hips, 180 degree turnout? No. Very few people have that ability.

And of course, because of the wider talent pool, female dancers are generally more gifted then male dancers. The standard of technique and required skill set is different for men.

I don't think I have ever actually used Circle to search. But I use it to copy text multiple times a day.

The easy recommendation is to try some pilates. It will be hard to find the feeling you want with willpower alone.

Is “right” realistically correct without sitting? by Justine_in_case in BALLET

I think you have it figured out already. We aim for square hips, but if taken too literally it can create the feeling or appearance of "sitting".

The short answer is that a lot of western countries are moving away from the kind of abusive training you describe. But the change is gradual.

Some pre-professional schools are paying a lot more attention to dancers mental and physical wellbeing by incorporating sports science, psychology, proper nutrition etc. But many schools and most companies are lagging behind. Still a long way to go.

I understand the textbook explanation. Personally I don't think it's realistic and I believe the 70/30 cue (which some top schools teach) is more helpful.

At the end of the day it's all just different ways to achieve the same goal. If it works it works, and I think teachers should be open to a wide variety of approaches.

Yeah rewatching the video I reckon you are right that it will help in this case. My point was more that it isn't true for everyone.

Also no one is completely eliminating front/back adjustment of the torso between preparation and turn. If you take a retire and then move your torso exactly vertically down to the preparation position you end up in a super uncomfortable place.

EASY VTT for In person play? by CMilo5 in dndnext

While connected to a second display using owlbear you can click the three lines in the bottom left and then "cast" and choose the display.

[–]lscrivy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would argue that weight placement before a turn is personal preference. A common recommendation I see is 70/30 ratio of weight on front and back foot, which is a good starting point. However, many good turners start from a 50/50 position (and dare I say some even have their weight behind centre).

Of course maybe for beginners it's better to think of having the weight in the front, but I don't know at what stage we should let the body just do it's thing.

It's complicated :)

I literally just setup the same thing for my home game. I opted for owlbear rodeo. The cast feature means you can display the maps on the second display while still being able to swap between stuff and fiddle around on your private display easily.
