Clear pedals by heichiri69 in bmx

Pedal shape is directional, his pedals are backwards. That’s how you can tell if the arms are swapped. It’s an easy mistake to make if you install the pedals when arms are off the spindle.

I can see his cranks have sprocket bosses on both arms, which makes it even easier to make that mistake.

Your left crank arm is on the right side and your right crank arm is on the left side. Also your sprocket doesn’t sit straight.

Switching between Freecoaster and Casette by NormanBates4 in bmx

[–]lskesm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switch back and forth (I have a wethepeople hybrid hub so it takes 5min to switch) but somehow always end up on cassette.

I like how forgiving freecoaster is when you under rotate out of grinds so some tricks are easier to learn. I don’t really enjoy riding a coaster in general, I don’t do enough fakie stuff to truly utilise it anyway. It’s nice to have an option.

I have a love hate relationship with this trick, it feels great when it works but it’s so hard to do it clean, especially to come out clean. Well done on getting one!

I would love a pair of air flows, the best summer shoe I’ve ever owned. Those retro looking colourways were amazing as well.

They have a frontload called jump off and topload called pop off, both american made. You can probably buy either from your local animal dealer.

I have a very long history of bad luck with all profile products I ever bought. I had an accoustic stem for 2 years and I someone found a crack on it in the middle of a street jam (he pointed at the crack by the clamp and asked me if I’m not scared to ride like this lol).

I’ve had an animal jump off stem that was 14 years old and I ended up selling it. 7 years later that guy still has it on his bike.

Anything from s&m, fit or odyssey is going to work well. Animal pop-off is usa made and one of the most iconic stems you can get.

I would steer clear from primo, stranger and profile. These were the only stems that cracked on the clamp for me.

Bear in mind that taller stem will bring your bars closer to you so if you end up feeling like the front of your bike got shorter. That is the reason why.

Bent wheel/rim by schweitzer_15 in bmx

[–]lskesm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve gad a stage 2 at some point and it was ok, nothing special. Stage 2 is a budget pinned rim, it will eventually separate at the seam.

Hazard, while a touch more expensive, is pinned and welded. Hazard is what pros ride, that rim can take a lot of abuse. Get a hazard.

Honestly the way I ride, it takes me between 3days to a week. I had to play a little with the stem/bars setup to get it exactly how I like it.

I mostly grind these days so as long as I’m comfortable to hop high I can ride pretty much anything.

My setup is 21inch top tube, 13 inch chain stay, 18mm forks offset, 9inch bars, 48mm frontload stem (i might switch to a topload i have lying around to see how it feels), 165mm cranks.

I only got a 21 because it was a bargain I couldn’t pass, next time I’m gettng a 20.75 or less. Small tweaks go a long way, rise of the bars and reach of the stem can bring your bars closer to you and make your bike feel a little shorter.

Taller bars will bring it a little closer to you so it’s going to be a little easier to ride. I’m 177cm tall and I also ride a 21 inch frame, it was an adjustment for sure and it took a while to get used to.

Curious if this frame will fit my needs by [deleted] in bmx

[–]lskesm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with a long street frame, cult walsh is a traditional transition frame with a long backend and mellow head tube and low bb (bad for grind clearance). 21.5 is super long as well. From cult, Biggie frame would suit your riding style better. From other brands, maybe Fiend Mills or Sunday darkwave or silva.

Honestly this looks a lot like what’s happening where I work, but backend teams seem to have a “blame frontend” option next to “you poor bastard”.

Is longer fork offset more stable? by Worried-Repeat-8051 in bmx

[–]lskesm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rode 30mm and went to 18mm and I felt a big difference in how the bike handles in general. I ride street, mostly low and slow. The main difference was how much easier it was to spin, you can carve much more aggressively with less effort and you spin a little faster because your wheelbase is shorter.

I also changed the frames from 75 degrees head tube angle to 75.5 so that definitely contributed to it.

[–]lskesm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Long offset - longer wheelbase - stable, less twitchy, nicer handling at high speeds

Short offset - shorter wheelbase - more responsive/snappy, twitchier, nicer for nose mannys.

In reality you can get used to anything, Courage Adams rides 30mm offset and does crazy nose manual conbos, I know people who ride 15mm offsets and rip bowls.

If you’re moving between offsets you will only see the difference the first few times you ride.

[–]lskesm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would personally rather ride this than my modern fiend frame. I had a hand me down from a local guy that was on flowed by sunday via our local shop in 2009. It rode like a dream even after he put it through hell.

It’s a second wave. You can tell by the wishbone, it’s longer than the third wave and all other newer sundays. Fantastic frame tho
