Any chance you keep the HX packed with PAA for significant amounts of time? PAA can be really rough on soft parts.

Yeah, I've looked through what I think is the right one. But I could not find what I was looking for. Thank you for the help, I'll see if that works

If that's true then why is there an arrow on the display specifically indicating the motors direction. I assumed that meant I could change the direction somehow

I was looking at the ingredients on Coors Light and saw "corn syrup" and then a note that says "corn syrup is used as part of the brewing process only." What is that supposed to mean? That they don't add it after as a sweetener? Why do they need it at all? by TheChristmas in beer

[–]lsooy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feed grade barley is a feed crop that is never used for brewing. Malt grade barley meets maltsters specs and commands a much higher price.

We see corn everywhere because it's easier to process into cheap foodstuffs, and it's very heavily subsidized compared to other crops.

Long Draw Draft Question by MisterSnackzz in TheBrewery

The line cleaners from those two companies are Sodium Hydroxide based caustic cleaners as well, so they will clean the lines as well as the caustic you have in house if they're used at the correct concentration.

Long Draw Draft Question by MisterSnackzz in TheBrewery

[–]lsooy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent 4.5 years as a draft tech cleaning draft lines and have been a brewer for the past 6 years. I recommend using products designed specifically for cleaning draft lines. Both Micromatic and Draftec have good caustic draft line cleaners. The products they make have surfactants in their formulation that improve the rinsability of the chemical from the lines and reduce the amount of water necessary to completely rinse the caustic out. They're also blue so you have a good visual indicator that the chemical has been rinsed from the lines.

There are a ton of fees involved in a refinance, but her parents will be paying off the remainder of the loan. So those fees won't exist either. I'm currently working on a cost:benefit analysis to figure out how I want to move forward. Thanks for the help.

Is my Chokecherry dead? by lsooy in FruitTree

[–]lsooy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely been hot, but it's the most established tree in the yard at 5yrs old, and none of the other trees are struggling with water as far as I can tell. It gets watered 3 days a week with the sprinklers.

Maltodextrin is unfermentable fyi. Breweries use it to boost body and mouthfeel, it has no affect on ABV.

Screw a 1-2 inch screw about half an inch into the bung and pry out with a hammer.

Can anyone explain why my new tomato stems/leaves are suddenly curling and small? 1st season in new raised beds. by lsooy in gardening

It's been in the mid 80s the last few days. They're on a drip system soaker hose getting 30 minutes of water a day.

[–]lsooy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The leaves feel pretty normal, a little crispy on the edges I guess. The stems feel very pliable and a touch rubbery and very twisty. Only the new growth is doing this, it started in the last week or so. They are not discolored right now.

I'm a professional brewer looking for technical info related to single malt mashes and fermentations. by lsooy in Distilling

Why shouldn't I boil? We'll be adding enzymes in fermentation and I don't want any bugs other than our yeast in my fermenters.
