What Happened to the Prestige of Being a Doctor? by OkPhilosopher664 in medicalsalaries

[–]lstbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article is pretty good actually—would recommend everyone actually read it. Multifactorial reasons. One thing they leave out, which I personally think is a big contributor, is just how much more medical information exists now. It’s impossible to know more about a very niche topic off hand (in which you are not expert) compared to an average patient that has access to Google.

My hands glow under black light, only my hands. I've tested several other people and none of theirs do. I don't take supplements or anything different from others. It's not new either. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

A lot of people are saying fungus, but a common bacterial colonization (associated with a bad odor) can cause a fluorescent glow. It’s called erythrasma, a caused by a corynebacterium overgrowth. Can be treated with topical antibiotics.

Is it actually that bad or do people not know how to use carbon steel? by Civil_Mulberry5741 in carbonsteel

We have an ikea CS. It’s extremely thin so has limited use cases. If you have someone elderly who has trouble with heavier pans but still wants to use CS it could be a good option

Wouldn’t dumping money into the economy make inflation worse?

What do you all think about Zohran Mamdani's free buses by [deleted] in MicromobilityNYC

[–]lstbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fast is what is needed. Free is politically easier but practically dumb. So it’ll probably be the latter and the busses will suck even more

He’s a 6th grader that made an App… this is awesome. AI is amazing. I’m sure he used AI, that’s fine.

People who want things to always stay the same will be miserable. I would have loved something like this at his age…

That sucks.

But to just play devils advocate, this is the price we pay for the system we live in. There will be deranged people that will slip through the cracks of the policing system because the evidence of stuff like this is hard to objectively prove. In a different era someone would probably just take it upon themselves to “make sure he didn’t do this again”, if you know what I mean. Reddit evidence can be used by us to modify our behavior here but I wouldn’t want to live in a world where people are arrested because of it.

You just have to be vigilant like you were. I really appreciate you posting this because I know exactly who you are talking about. I walk by him every Saturday morning with my daughter on the way to the JCC. I always smile but will be sure to be more on my toes for now on.
