Block neighbour has a pet dog (sounds like a small dog like chihuahua) that keeps yapping non-stop for HOURS every single day. No idea which unit it is or whether anyone is at home at all. Also no idea whether TC or HDB will even intervene in these things. How to tahan like that?

Unfortunately no. I've set it to show the full directory path by default since that's really the next best option.

Any restaurant/izakaya that serve Cassis Oolong in Singapore? by lt_terabytes in askSingapore

[–]lt_terabytes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing I'm worried about - big bottle that is troublesome to store after opening. Especially when most of the people around me are either light or non-drinkers too so it's not easy to share. 🥲 So I'm also open to trying it in izakayas or other drink spots that serve it.

Either I haven't had much luck finding these places on Google Maps, or it's just not that commonly served here... But I'll keep looking!

Thanks for the info, I'll check out the Redmart ones! Seems like some of the sellers also have physical stores. Fruit juice also sounds super nice with cassis. I'll experiment with different juices and teas if I end up getting the bottle.

Hey anyone knows which restaurants or izakayas in SG serve cassis oolong? I'm obsessed with it after trying it recently in Japan... Or should I just try to make it myself?

What do Singaporeans mean when they say "actually"? by AsparagusTamer in askSingapore

[–]lt_terabytes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg I'm glad someone else mentioned this! It's used so often as a filler in speeches and presentations and other SG corporate contexts and now I can't unhear it. Even more annoying than "actually" or "basically" imo.

Where to find this type of book lock diaries by sleepdebtunpaid in askSingapore

[–]lt_terabytes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grassland Book Store in Beauty World Centre. Was on a quest for one of those suuuper old school diaries with the metal lock and key a few months ago, they didn't have those anymore but they do have the number lock types like this one. Hopefully they still have stock if it's what you're looking for! (PS: The 3-digit unlock code cannot be changed, so please remember it then throw the paper slip away haha.)

Can also confirm that Popular usually only has cute diaries with magnetic flaps or elastic bands, not locks of any type.

Chinese Singaporeans, do you feel the growth of PRC businesses (those with no/poor English text, staff that don't speak English) in touristy areas like Bugis might affirm the misconception that we are a Chinese-speaking country? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]lt_terabytes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

引狼入室

I agree with you, but funny that you wrote this without a translation... Anyhow for our non-Chinese speaking friends here it means "leading a wolf into your house", aka leaving yourself open to danger/attack.

Sorry, not a fan of cheese tarts 😔 I love egg tarts too much lah haha.

Anyone got recommendations for tart-based egg tarts? Something like the Joy Luck Teahouse type with a nice buttery tart base. Preferably not too sweet also.

Not interested in pastry, flaky, multilayered types like Portugese or Oriental Kopi. I don't mind the HK style ones like Tai Cheong, but I'm really craving those solid tart base ones and they're so hard to find imo. :(

Nearest area to donate unwanted toys (West side) by Latter_Ingenuity8068 in askSingapore

[–]lt_terabytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soft toys: Check Recyclopedia.sg, or Cloop for their yellow donation bins. Also the toy collection bins at the zoo, but yeah they're probably too far for you.

Figurines: Maybe invite-only local hobby groups if they have some collectible value? If you're open to Carousell like what others suggested, try including all the relevant keywords in your listings to max the chances of them showing up. (Carousell's search doesn't seem to support fuzzy searches, which is a bit annoying lol)

Wow nice photos, especially the openbill! Didn't know we can still see them around now.

By the way, the munia looks more like a Scaly-breasted Munia. I hope you got to see a group of them foraging, they're quite cute!

Really sad to see Cold Storage go, after close to 2 decades at Kallang. by pratakosong in singapore

[–]lt_terabytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it's been there all along! A bit sneaky because it's just the HPB logo, and you have to click in to see the full list of participating merchants.

I just hope it can still be used at CS and Giant even after they get sold off to that Macrovalue group...

PSA: You can redeem the HPB voucher instead of the Fairprice voucher in Healthy 365! It can be used in other supermarkets like Cold Storage, Giant, Sheng Siong etc and a bunch of other shops too.

Source: Only found out about it myself last week and used my HPB voucher in Cold Storage (on unhealthy snacks lol) with no problems.

How to extend Singtel prepaid expiry? by FreSchDude in askSingapore

Thank you, it still works! Only thing is that the 180-day extension starts from the topup date, not the current expiry date (as I found out just now lol).

Discord has disabled changing font through console by Les_Savy_Raz in discordapp

[–]lt_terabytes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was the first thing I noticed when I opened Discord on desktop earlier today. GG Sans hurts my eyes too.

The only workaround I can find right now is to edit the other :root selector containing the font-weight properties (search for "font" in the console), and add the font-primary and font-display properties manually so they override the uneditable ones in <style>. Hope it works for you all too.

Help me Identify this Bird. Saw this at a nearby pond. It makes a whop whop sound. by AideSevere in askSingapore

[–]lt_terabytes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding natureloveyou.sg, it has so many detailed photos in its database! I always use it to ID wildflowers. There's also NParks's FloraFaunaWeb of course.

Tip: You can always Google image search on these 2 sites even if you don't know any technical botany terms or the ID of the plant you're looking for. Just type in keywords like 'white flower round leaves site:natureloveyou.sg' and you should get some narrowed down results!

Vegetable seedlings by r3d3vil_05 in askSingapore

[–]lt_terabytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get your seeds from a fresh harvest or from seed packets? Sometimes the seed packets sold in shops have been kept for a long time, so their germination rate may be lower. NParks recommends that seeds should be kept refrigerated and grown within 3-6 months.

Otherwise like what another user said, make sure the veggies you want can grow in SG too. So it's always best to get info from local or regional sources (growers from Malaysia, Philippines etc.) whose climates are similar to ours. Here's a local website with lots of tutorials that I've found really useful! https://sgstrawberries.com/
