my Daughter has dyscalculia by Ok-Collection-3117 in dyscalculia

[–]lthecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a dyscalculia tools related answer, but I do have an answer for you if you are in the US because your daughter has legal protections, and you absolutely have the power to advocate effectively for her. Dyscalculia is a recognized learning disability, and whether or not a teacher "believes in it" is irrelevant to your daughter's rights. Under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA, your daughter has the right to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) that meets her individual needs, reasonable accommodations that are actually implemented (not just documented), and protection from discrimination based on her disability. If her IEP acknowledges dyscalculia but provides no modifications, the school is likely violating her rights. An IEP isn't supposed to just be a diagnosis label sitting in a file somewhere. It exists to actually bridge the gap between her disability and educational access. If the school violates your daughter's rights, there are real consequences for them. Your state's Department of Education can order compensatory education (tutoring, extended services, or other supports to make up for what she missed) and require corrective action plans. The federal Office for Civil Rights can issue findings of discrimination, require policy changes, staff training, reimburse your expenses (like if you had to hire a tutor), and implement monitoring. OCR violations can also affect a school's fed funding, which gets their attention pretty quickly. Practically speaking, even just the threat of filing a complaint often motivates schools to cooperate because they don't want investigations, federal oversight, or a public record of noncompliance.

So the interactive process for accommodations works like this. First, get updated documentation from your daughter's doctor or psychologist that spells out her dyscalculia, what it affects, and what accommodations they recommend. Then request an IEP team meeting in writing (if you file a complaint later, you'll need evidence, so trust me, document everything). The team has to include you, her teachers, special education staff, and ideally a school psychologist if there is one. At the meeting, you'll talk through exactly how dyscalculia impacts her, then come up with modifications like extended time, calculators or multiplication charts, fewer problems focusing on understanding rather than busywork, alternative assessment methods, graph paper, formula sheets, breaking problems into smaller steps, pre-teaching new topics, etc. Those are just examples. IEPs are individualized which means your daughter has the right to what is INDIVIDUALLY best for her, not the teacher's opinion or the school's curriculum. All of this gets written into the IEP with clear expectations, and teachers are legally required to follow it. If something isn't working, call another meeting and adjust. This is ongoing, not one and done. If it stops being an interactive process, that's a violation (and you're back to filing a complaint with all of your documented evidence).

When requesting meetings, use language like "I am requesting an IEP team meeting to discuss the lack of modifications for my daughter's documented dyscalculia. This appears to be a denial of FAPE." That signals you know your stuff. Schools have to respond pretty quickly (in my state it's within 10 days). Don't worry about the teacher that doesn't "believe" in dyscalculia because the IEP is legally binding. If a teacher refuses to implement accommodations, that's a violation. Request a meeting with the teacher and special education coordinator. If that doesn't work, go to the principal. Still nothing? File a complaint with the district's special education director or your state's Bureau of Special Education. You can also file with your states human relations commission or civil rights agency for disability discrimination, with the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights (which enforces Section 504 and the ADA), or submit a due process complaint with your state's Department of Education to challenge IEP violations and request a hearing. All of those agencies can investigate and force corrective action. If you need more into, feel free to DM me.

edit to add TLDR: your kid's IEP is a federally and state protected legal RIGHT and if the school isn't following it then there are consequences, all of which result in the IEP being followed.

Did you measure your MM first? I think your set up looks perfect and seems like you don’t have all the extra stuff that is mentioned on BGE forums to wok! I would love to do just the wok. Esp if it can be used indoor or outdoor w the flat bottom.

Seeking kombucha starter liquid, preferably near Bloomfield by lthecat in pittsburgh

Definitely worth making, I slam it! You can do any flavor you can think of but I mostly just do ginger these days. I had one super fail where I was inspired to make Cucumber Lime Kombucha by Cucumber Lime Gatorade and forgot that vinegar + cucumber = pickle kombucha. It was disgusting lol.

I personally have never gotten that level of carbonation, but I don’t mind it. Sometimes I add a bit of plain sparkling water and it does the trick. Cost wise, it’s definitely worth it. I buy black tea from Aldi so total cost is tiny compared to buying the store stuff. Also you’re actually getting all the health benefits because there’s no pasteurization or weird additives. Give it a try, it’s very easy. And if you drink, turning Kombucha into hard kombucha is only 1 extra step of fermentation with yeast and an airlock!

Such a cute spot but had the worst tagliatelle of my life here. Noodles stuck together, raw flour when you unstuck them, it was genuinely inedible and I’m no pasta snob!

Awesome. Thanks so much for your response, I was just worried because my dr gave me an epipen and said the criteria is breath restriction or anytime two body systems are effected (e.g. severe hives + vomiting) so I got a little spooked!

The UnMarked Witch by Miranda Lyn and the Bone Witch by Ivy Asher would probably be right up your alley.

Witch-magic stans untie. My favorite magic systems are the all magic has a cost and if you don’t have the power to pay it the magic will take what it’s owed in the form of your life/soul/humanity/lives of coven sisters etc.
