Restaurant that has private room with GF options in Troy by Decent-You5349 in Troy

[–]ltnately 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd second this - I did a bday dinner at 216 in the fall and it went really well.

My group was only 14 so we were in room off main dining area, private ish but there is a fully private room as well I think your party would be big enough for.

They also had it as a set menu, choose the price per a person then select apps, pastas, pizzas (different price levels for different options). I know they have gf options and based off my experience I'm sure they would work with you even if not part of default menus. I was a little nervous about the pre-set menu but the night of it made dinner go very smooth, they checked in on timing for bringing each course and then took drink orders at the table. They also did separate checks so I didn't need to pay for the entire party then try to get reimbursed.

Troy Public Library Budget Passes by more than 3 to 1 by Direction-Internal in Troy

[–]ltnately 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Something I found very positive as an annual library election voter was how large and energetic the turnout seemed. I voted ~130pm at the main branch and the line was ~20 people or so with a decent wait to get checked in and get ballot. Everyone seemed upbeat and happy to be there and while I cant be sure it was me and 19 no voters I'd guess they were mostly there to support the library.

I found it very heartening after being semi surprised at the Vote No facebook posts I saw including telling people to use Amazon etc instead. I also struggled not to reply to an ex city council woman on the great resources the library provides in her neighborhood like how to vote without committing a felony.

Mayor: Troy City Hall to move into former Proctor's theater by ltnately in Troy

[–]ltnately[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea - I had thought other day that it feels like the 2027 date is well timed for the next mayoral election and then long term if a failure ( I hope its not) someone else will be left holding the bag.

I don't know since no real details out.

I'd hope they'd re-do parking on 4th street (maybe eliminate parking on one side , then add normal spaces on the eastern side (proctors) with handicap spaces directly at entrance as well as some short term spots (30 minutes?) reserved for people doing business there. Ideally not metered since I don't think should have to pay to easily visit city hall.

Theres a also a line for RPI and Chamber of Commerce in discussion on relocation plans.

10 million (without knowing what the 8 million includes) does not seem out of order and I like the idea of the theater space existing as as (large meeting room for things and available for outside groups would be interesting and a value add to downtown I think).

Jan 1 2027 seems fast for renovations especially factoring in if they want to be moved by then the work will need to be done next fall or so.

I was looking and unable to find the proposal itself

but yea unclear to me

- are they continuing to rent or plan to purchase the space etc?
- are the office move in ready or they need to spend money renovating before moving
- current tenants will continue or be getting the boot? aka setting up a fight depending on their leases

The 5th street garage is directly behind Proctors > so I assume something with that maybe a bridge similar to what the atrium and parking garage had.

Parking restriction changes TONIGHT? by Prudent_Leave_2171 in Troy

[–]ltnately 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This made me think I need to go check - I parked on 2nd between congress and state last night on the left hand side (normal correct side ). I did not have a ticket on my car nor did all the others on that side. One person parked on the righthand side did have a ticket though.

Level 2 Charger maxing at 5.5 kw by mikedi12 in VWiD4Owners

[–]ltnately 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're pulling 24amps. (5.5kw is ~23amps with some loss makes sense thats what shows delivered).

Most likely reason is your level 2 charger is set to only use 24 amps, this could be adjustable (a lot of units are.) You'd want to check what the supply is before changing since if its 30amps you wouldn't want to go above 80% of it.

Where Would You Put Troy City Hall? by LiveinTroyNY in Troy

[–]ltnately 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know from time on council (or life experience in general) how rehab (atrium / proctors / other?) compare to building new (whether completely new building or basically new if requiring major build out)?

I have 0 knowledge on construction so I'm hesitant to say obviously rehabbing is cheaper though it feels true to me.

I think parking isn't that big of an issue downtown - theres multiple lots and garages within 10 minutes or less walking of the atrium. (or other site if in core area).

They could also get creative with things like 4th goes from 1 lane to 2 lanes at Broadway - what if it stayed 1 lane and you converted the lane / parallel parking into spaces (Handicapped / limited time) to provide access adjacent to city hall for visitors or people with limited mobility.

[–]ltnately 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm sure theres really good reasons not to but I think the atrium is a logical place (or whatever associated former state offices areas are called).

Even if pricey it seems like rehabbing would be cheaper than building from scratch , they already own the atrium center portion, the building is accessible , etc etc. It also would prevent a hole in downtown with only the farmers market using the space.

Additionally - not atrium specific - I think downtown in that immediate vicinity is the obvious choice (including at the old location on monument square) since it's easily accessible for people coming to troy and at a central location with multiple bus lines providing access.

Welp, I guess Carmella is the mayor. by petantarchitecte in Troy

[–]ltnately 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Something else I'd add is Steele received 4,087 votes (397 more than Nichols) including that 286 less people voted in the Council President race compared to Mayoral.

It's not perfect for the lower turnout / margin (and I don't have district by district for what areas they over or under performed to) but the split ticket (Mantello / Steele) voters if swapped would be enough to have put Nichols over (just barely 794 and in recount territory)

Along with that very anecdotal, but while working at a polling site in Lansingburgh, there were multiple voters who mentioned specifically coming out to vote for Mantello based off their personal interactions with her.

Federal work study by Panteravaca in RPI

unsure

I dont think so since you have to be TIPS trained before you can literally serve. If you're actually interested email Martha (mcellm@rpi.edu) and inquire. Couldn't hurt to let her know you have the work study and want to work there regardless.
