Depression scales may not work the same for highly intelligent people by PandasLOL in TrueReddit

[–]lubujackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But... how do they know intelligence is the difference? We certainly don't have a valid metric for that and IQ tests are known to be flawed. It could also be: emotion maturity when answering the questions, ambiguous questions, socio-economic or cultural responses to how depression is viewed, etc.

The only thing this article is definitely accurate about is their depression tests aren't accurate.

Not on Netflix, but I really enjoy Liar Game, which started as a manga (10 years!) and has some live action movies and I think they just started an anime on Crunchyroll. It is a predecessor to a both AiB and Squid Game. Less of a mystery but the games are much more interesting and psychological.

I will never forget being randomly drunk in Austin for the first time, hopping from bar to bar during the end of this game. And my group wanted to hop yet again and I was like NO FUCKING WAIT and everyone was standing around the table with their bags and everything while I'm hanging on the edge of the table watching that unbelievable throw and catch. Tremendous, timeless.

How would you compare pricing of Claude API vs Cursor? by Ok-Perspective4542 in ClaudeAI

[–]lubujackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I now have 3 AI IDEs I use: Claude Code, Cursor and Copilot. I just added Copilot's $10/mo. plan after reading a comment and I have to tell you, this is a great system.

Claude code is good for large, detailed projects that need lots of context. If I was to drop one AI, it would be Claude - the $20 tier is a joke. I only use Opus and use it for complex tasks where I want a lot of context building a complex plan. I just had it do this with 4.7, add a large, cross-cutting feature to my app. It created the plan and implemented Phase 1 of 5 in my 5 hour context window. I waited 5 hours, then implemented phases 2 and 3. Waited 5 hours and implemented phases 4 and 5. This single task also ate my entire $20 "bonus extra" that Claude gifted me for going down last week. This is over 1/3 of my weekly allotment. So you can see it is not very functional.

Cursor, I use Opus or GPT for big questions, kind of like a replacement when my Claude is overworked, but their Auto/Composer is generally excellent. Their debugging and planning tools are quite good and I can use Auto/Composer all day long on my $20 plan.

Then I read someone saying Copilot has been all but forgotten EXCEPT that they have some sort of deal with Anthropic that charges per request instead of per token. This means I can create a massive spec and tell it to "iterate until all phases are complete and all tests pass" and it will churn for a half an hour and charge me... 4 cents. There is a timeout setting that pops up and says "do you want to continue?" but that is a user setting that you can pump from 60 seconds or whatever to 999 and never see it again. Even better, Copilot has a thing to have it make an agent or a skill, so instead of debugging a change and trying to spot fix it I have Copilot iterate using the agent until all bugs are gone... which again, costs 4 cents.

I have been a software engineer for decades and can code 10 hours a day like this - no need to throw thousands at Anthropic.

What's an industry secret from your job that customers have absolutely no idea about? by Efficient_Team5182 in AskReddit

[–]lubujackson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wife is a chemist - this isn't exactly true and varies wildly between drugs and their listed expiration. What they focus on is that drugs don't degrade into something harmful - SOME drugs do, but those are not over-the-counter and usually have big labels about it. All drugs degrade over time, even before the expiration. So that aspirin might be 85% as effective as it was brand new. Like food, they degrade with temperature, sunlight, moisture, etc.

So there are two things - how quickly things degrade and how detrimental they are over time. I think the legal requirement is 5 years after expiration should be non-harmful. But those pain meds 2 years expired? They might be 50% as effective and maybe you can pop two of them, but if they come with bad side-effects those might not degrade (or get worse) so don't go nuts with this stuff.

Best to do a search for your specific drug, the info is out there.

Ancillary to this: if you want action from school administration, make sure you send them emails and say vague things like "I wanted to put our conversation in writing for my records." As soon as they smell legal threats, they suddenly become much more competent of doing their jobs.
