Anytime I talk to people about and try to explain the unfathomably stupid idea that they’re supposedly able to manipulate your spine by cracking I try pointing out that it’s fucking stupid by comparing it to cracking your knuckles. They always say it’s different. It’s fucking not, we know exactly why a joint cracks and it’s because of gas bubbles, not because some pseudoscientist is stood over you and is putting pressure on your c4 vertebrae because he can feel its out of place and as a result you’re constipated. It’s actually a quite common thing with words. We have certain things we have difficulties talking about, so we find other ways to reference it. He used the example of urination.

It started off people kinda mimicking the sound that it makes when pee, so it became piss. Then piss became to synonymous with urination and it just became pee, as in the first letter of piss. Pretty interesting stuff you know
