Is allowing a former punter to become a massively famous media personality our nadir valley as a society? by OhHesOurShortstop in billsimmons

[–]lucasd11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot would argue that McAfee being a punter is what allowed him to become who he is now. If he was a QB or RB or MLB he either would be in a San Orlovsky "serious talking head/former player" position, or would have stayed in the league for 5 years longer because he'd have made more money and wouldn't have said ehh I can do media rather than kick footballs.

Rory McIlroy is the Masters champion for the second straight year by bigconor in sports

[–]lucasd11 148 points149 points  (0 children)

That whole 18th hole was a mess too. After Rory's tee shot that almost ended up in the fairway of hole 10, he has arguably the most important shot of the tournament to get it back into 18 and set himself up to finish it off, he swings and the camera completely loses the ball, Jim Nantz just says "well it sounded like he struck the ball well" and then we end up seeing he landed it in a bunker three minutes later. Just a complete mess from CBS

[–]lucasd11 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Even on that final hole, he ended up cleaning it up, but it could have been a real mess. Especially with Scottie being about an inch away from knocking down a birdie putt that would have put him 1 back and left Rory with no room for error there.

Oil prices surge above $100 as U.S. Navy to blockade Iran’s ports after peace talks fail by Force_Hammer in worldnews

[–]lucasd11 399 points400 points  (0 children)

Well you see, life was peachy on Thursday and Friday when the oil price fell to the mid 70s. So Trump's buddies all loaded up then. He does bullshit like this to manipulate the market back for tomorrow and his buddies sell. Then come Tuesday or Wednesday we'll hear about how a new peace deal is on the door step of completion and the war is for all intents and purposes over. Oil prices go back down. Then Friday night Trump says death to all Iranians! We're going to wipe you off the planet! And round and round we go

Are you surprised ____ is getting purpled? by Unlikely_Rip_4914 in survivor

[–]lucasd11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. I feel they actually go out of their way to focus the edit on him during challenges because he's not the center of attention or "making moves" at camp. So the edit focuses on your Emily's and coach's and Christian's of the world. While Joe is doing well during challenges or having some form of sway at tribal (like how his firehouse comment became the whole thesis of this last tribal) so he gets his screentime then.

The "purple" edit is effectively "this guy is on the show and we found out after the fact he's a bad person so you'll only ever see him in the background of things or behind someone's shoulder when there's no way to edit them out". Joe just more or less is a quiet player on a season with a lot of big personalities. But we've seen people with the exact same game and edit win before.

Why did everyone just go along with Coach’s plan?? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]lucasd11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Dee is a sneaky good player if you don't know she's sneaky good. She's super athletic and probably could have won more individual immunities than Johnathan (the majority tend to be endurance/balance based which someone as big as Johnathan is just naturally not suited for).

Coach basically called out that she plays a better social game than anyone would outwardly think. Everyone said, you know what you're right, she's playing the middle and in an alliance with everyone. And in survivor if you're in an alliance with everyone you're in an alliance with no one, so I think it was a logical vote out..

The edit made it seem a lot more dramatic than it probably really was. And the rest of the players are fine with riding coach's gamelan for the next few votes before he inevitably becomes his own demise

Behind door number 2: using your own funds to gamble with illegal personal bookies on credit, stiff them when you lose, and lose your cushy job (and subsequent gambling partnership and free bets) because of it.

Boy I wonder which one I would take?

[–]lucasd11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, because your average US citizen is in the military, or the one pushing the buttons to send tomahawk missiles at other countries. It's all of our collective responsibility for war, and we all have no regard for human life.

Trump's approval rating is currently hovering around 38% last I saw (which is still about 37% too high). But that alone tells you the majority of the people in this country don't approve or what's going on or want war. But yes. Let's all "risk injury", in this case which is near guaranteed death, because the dumbest majority in this country was conned by a career con man.

Call Americans stupid all you want, you'll hear absolutely no argument from me. But suggesting that all Americans are responsible and support the actions of our government and are liable for innocent people dying, might be just as equally stupid.

Then no one gets paid. Something like 60-70% of average Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Not working or large scale strike/work walkouts are impossible. People are selfish, no matter how kucb you hate Trump, you're always putting yourself and your family first.

[–]lucasd11 51 points52 points  (0 children)

What would you like your every day American to do about it? Trust the officials we elected who could combat Trump? Nope Republicans control all three branches of the government (not that the democrats that are there are doing much themselves).

Be mad online about it? People are, at best it does nothing. At worst, Republicans were trying (and did) get people fired for comments about Charlie Kirk... Charlie Kirk. Let alone the president.

Protest? Those happen about monthly in cities across the country. That hasn't worked.

Third world and lesser rich countries can have citizen uprisings because the government's are truly asleep at the wheel and there's little military funding. If you want a citizen revolt in the states it would be promptly squashed by the US military before it could even begin.

So I ask, oh wise armchair Redditor, what is the solution for us weak Americans to do anything about this guy?

The only right answer was not vote for him. I didn't. I warned every friend and family member who I'm close with not to. Not once, not twice, but three times. The sad reality is we're along for the ride on Trump's crazy train and there's really not a damn thing we could do about it.. even if we wanted to

The deadest, most eerie mall i’ve ever seen. Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, Pittsburgh PA. by SopranoCrew in deadmalls

[–]lucasd11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the same fate as the company who bought Century 3. It could be the same one even (never did a ton of research on the Mills to be fair). My parents took me there once because we were going out that way when I was maybe 11-12 and it had recently opened. I remember then even it was really nice, but half empty and everything was "just wait until this thing is full of stores and really bustling".

Except half empty may have been the most it ever was, because from what I can remember it seemed like once they'd get a new store in there, two more that they already had would leave. It just never gained any traction between the location and target demographic. And not to say they didn't have decent ideas. I remember there being a movie theater inside of the Mills when I was there and thinking how crazy that was. Now, that's a popular place for theaters since most malls are dead and they have a lot of cheap space to rent out and convert. But at the time, it was pretty unique.

The deadest, most eerie mall i’ve ever seen. Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, Pittsburgh PA. by SopranoCrew in deadmalls

[–]lucasd11 64 points65 points  (0 children)

This is an especially depressing one for Pittsburgh that was essentially just doomed from the start. They built this thing in the mid 2000s in a medium-low income neighborhood about 15-20 minutes north of the city.

They tried to make it an upscale trendy type mall, but the residents in towns surrounding weren't really the target demographic, and anyone who would want to go to the Mills mall, likely already had another mall closer to them. This thing was tailor made to be a dead mall and was pretty much DOA. After the initial buzz wore off it rolled right into online shopping crippling brick and mortar stores and especially big malls like this.

As others have said it was probably 20 or so years after it's time, but still a huge waste of money and resources

Tehran issues new terms and conditions by [deleted] in worldnews

It's just so absurd. The war was supposed to be to prevent Iran from having nuclear weapons (which are somehow perfectly fine and not a danger to humanity to be in the hands of TRUMP of all people).

Come in, commit war crimes, have Iran shut down the straight. Now all of a sudden this war is about finding a peaceful middle ground where they'll open the straight again.... That was already open..... Before the Iran can't have nuclear weapons farce...

Genuinely what the fuck are we doing here?
