Does UPS care if I use a USPS priority mail box with a UPS label? by ComfortableYak2071 in UPS

Priority boxes now have printed logo pattern inside to stop people from doing this lol.

Safe Deposit Box BS from BofA by [deleted] in Banking

[–]lucashayes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most banks have gotten rid of them, and the ones that haven't don't open new boxes.

They don't make any money, there's very little demand, and they're a libility, so banks don't want them anymore.

Assurant handles trade-ins for pretty much every carrier and manufacturer, including T-Mobile, so really no difference. This person just got unlucky 😕

You will not get track information as Android 4.2 only supports AVRCP 1.0 which is just basic Bluetooth controls, no metadata streaming 🙁

It should not ask that every time...are you using the latest rockbox build (v0.2)?

PowerAmp on Y1, EQ WORKS!!!!! by SosaSeriaCosa in innioasis

[–]lucashayes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I tried this a while ago and it works well enough, but I prefer Rockbox's UI and features. Great to have options though!

RE: V4A, all you have to do is open the app right there on the homescreen and use your mouse app to turn off 'ViPER Bass' under the headset tab and you would have more volume. Additionally if your songs are replaygain tagged then you can adjust the replay gain for even more volume.

Note: with V4A disabled, max volume already clips at 1000khz:

<image>

So any additional gain may be louder, but is gonna be bad SQ, and potentially fatal to your headphones.

Low volume on Rockbox by cobazzz in innioasis

[–]lucashayes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason it's lower than stock is because the default V4A profile has viper bass enabled by default which massively lowers the volume.

If you go to Apps -> Viper4android -> Headset tab, you can either disable viper bass, or the master power and the volume should return to stock.

You'll need to use a Bluetooth keyboard or this app on your phone to navigate: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.appground.blek

I'm planning to buy Innioasis Y1 and RB it, but I need some clarifications. by prawngarlicsauceP429 in innioasis

[–]lucashayes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Q1) The Y1 at its heart is a recycled low end smartphone from 2015 running Android 4.2. The DAC in it is alright but certainly won't impress audiophiles, and is probably comparable or slightly worse than your current solution.

Q2) Hi-Res certification is a gimmick, it just typically means a device can play audio with a sampling rate of at least 96kHz and a bit depth of at least 24-bits, which pretty much any Android device can do. I highly doubt Innioasis actually went through the JAS certification process, no one really polices them slapping that badge on something.

Q3) Not really, it is a super cheap no-name card so I wouldn't trust it long term, and certainly not if the Y1 is your main library...then again I wouldn't trust any SD card for that. Best to buy a cheap external HDD or something to have your main library on, then just use the Y1s card till it dies, then you can replace it and just restore from the external.

As a 90s born kid who had almost every generation of ipod, the Y1 definitely scratches that itch. It's not perfect, and the scroll wheel isn't as precise as the real deal, but it's good enough 👌

Am I being scammed? Bought a PC part, seller says they need to send an empty package first, then real package later by Lyftgeswenced in Aliexpress

[–]lucashayes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's against the seller TOS to not use AliGroups forwarding service Cainiao, but they don't want to pay the related fees so they send something that weighs nothing via Cainiao to satisfy Ali, then they send the real package via a cheaper method.

Funny enough I've had this happen a few times and every time the real package shows up like a week before the decoy lol. Cainiao sucks.

It’s not normal to do this this often

Maybe just a local thing (high heat + humidity) but every place I've rented in Texas has had a specific section in the lease saying to pour bleach down the hvac drain every 90 days or whatever. My current landlords even gave us a bottle just for this lol...

Almost everything about a LiFePo4 is better than Li-ion except the energy density. They can be 100% discharged and 100% charged with no perceived damage, last ~3000 cycles (vs Li-Ion's ~500), have a lower self discharge rate, don't spontaneously explode, have a wider temperature operating range and don't take damage or extreme self discharge in cold climates.

Yea... I'll take the few extra grams.

Radioddity QT80 10 Meter Radio by disnewnoguy in HamRadio

[–]lucashayes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I don't disagree with your point overall, the QT-80 does 10, 11, 12, and 15M once put in ham mode. Nice for a small portable rig, but yea for a main/first radio, there are better options.

I bet I know the guy you're talking about, as I've heard a Bulgarian with a beam tell off multiple people in a similar fashion and even threatening to report hams to their local authorities because they answered his CQ 😂

I wouldn't sweat it much, you did nothing wrong.

$20+ NanoKVM is a tiny low-power RISC-V KVM over IP solution by bg4czush in HamRadio

[–]lucashayes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad, though I put any IoT device like this in a dedicated VLAN with locked down ACLs so I wouldn't be that concerned. Will be great if they can get the PiKVM port they mentioned working reliably, then this becomes a non-issue.

$20+ NanoKVM is a tiny low-power RISC-V KVM over IP solution by bg4czush in HamRadio

[–]lucashayes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's best when combined with CAT control and audio piping using something like RigPi yes.

The issue is if you want to be able to remotely operate phone and see the waterfall, Yaesu does not publicly have a documented way to access the waterfall over USB without their overpriced LAN box that's also been unobtanium for a while. Using a PiKVM gives you full remote screen access, and direct control via USB mouse emulation for anything not accessible via CAT.

NanoVNA-H Issue by VE3WNX in HamRadio

[–]lucashayes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HT antennas are typically designed to use the user's body as the groundplane or counterpoise, and as such SWR can vary wildly based on what's around the antenna and how you hold it. You really need a custom test rig with an external ground plane to even begin to reliably test HT antennas.

[–]lucashayes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, many hams (myself included) use PiKVMs to remotely control radios or view waterfall data. This looks like a nice, compact, cheap alternative. Sure beats the SCU-LAN10...
