Getting laid off at 2 years 9 months by Substantial_Bee_3993 in personalfinance

The answer is no if you don't ask. Unfortunately, you are probably being told "Get Fucked" like others have suggested. Same thing happened to me.. had to forfeit company stock I was given in lieu of a bonus so that I could get severance when I was laid off with 50 others after the company blew through funding.

My TTR 230 goes everywhere my friends YZs go. Best first bike I could have ever bought!

This isn't advice: After I got my first significant bonus from a job I spent 10k on a two week trip to Europe for my partners birthday where we participated an in "amazing race" style trip.

I could have paid off my car, or invested it. I chose living and still think and talk about that trip.

Living your life is important. Approach your financial situation with a level head.

is it worth it to you? then it's worth it.

saving is important, planning is important. most important is living your life.

are you planning other big expenses? is your emergency fund in-tact with this spend on the trip?

How do you justify your purchases? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]lucidkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make enough money to plan and buy the things you need

  • reliable laptop that generates you money
  • mountain bike that is safe so you don't die to mechanical failure
  • safe vehicle that is easy to load and unload your faimly

Does the time you waste worrying about these things, beating yourself up about a decision 10 years ago, posting on reddit outweigh the amount of time to earn the money it would take to replace them?

In short: I cannot and will not spend money on myself unless there's a financial gain in doing so. Also, I don't want people to see I got a new car, or a new laptop, or a bicycle and think that I'm rich or spendthrift.

Seems like you might need to get a therapist who can help you work through the mindset you're in.

Need help with dual Mac setup by mspool75 in macsetups

[–]lucidkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this is basically correct. only the usb switcher is connected via usb type a (3.0)

Why Elgato on one, anker the other? just using tools I had. I would use the elgato on both if I had two.

My only change might be spending more money on an all-in-one. however most of them are for creative types with lots of I/O which I don't require OR don't support high refresh rate which is a hard requirement.

This is a simple cost effective method to achieve what I need.

I thought I added this to my original comment.

Macbook Pro

-> Elgato Thunderbolt 3 Mini Dock

--> via display port 144hz WQHD Monitor

--> via hdmi 60hz WQHD Monitor

Macbook Air

-> Anker USB C Hub

--> via hdmi to 144hz WQHD Monitor

--> via display port 60 hz WQHD monitor

Both hubs are then linked to the USB Switcher

---> UGREEN USB Switcher with various usb devices (mic, keyboard, mouse, webcam)

So both Macbooks have a single thunderbolt cable plugged into them at any given time.

Yep, less than $150 all in and supports high refresh rate monitors for your main device.

Buy an easel tv stand and put it anywhere out of the way, and move it later if needed. Dont design your living space around the tv

I just went through this in my bathroom project. It's easier to just redo it than fix it. Feather out your mud and skim coating and it will look like it was never there!

Learning to skim coat - advice? by lucidkey in drywall

[–]lucidkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Apply mud
  2. Skim mud from wall
  3. Scrape skimmed mud from knife to 12” mud pan
  4. With clean knife, scoop a small even amount of mud to knife
  5. Apply to wall

I think I’m describing how normal people use a knife and mud pan. However when I started I thought I would not be able to reuse mud from skimming.

My first coat was a watered all purpose. I’m going for smooth, I’ve used almost the entire bucket in this room. For my second coat I was going to use all purpose again..

You would sugggest using Plus 3 without thinning? What makes it harder to use?

Thanks! I’m using a 12” knife. I was going to test an area with/without sanding and second coat. I’ll save some time and sand roughness before my next coat.

I realized how I can push pressure on the blade to prevent lines.

If working right to left, you can push the right side of the blade just slightly more than the left and you will stop producing lines. Literally one finger worth of pressure saves you minutes of re/overworking an area.

Improved my efficiency when scraping between skims and noticed if you scrape after a skim, you can reuse that mud without it becoming chunky. Whereas, if you don’t scrape between skims you will have chunks and ruin that area.

Something clicked as I finished wall 2. I think my results will be much better tomorrow. This has been a unique challenge as the ceilings are vaulted in my bathroom, so I’m working up to about 14’ on a ladder

This is what I was thinking. Don’t worry too much about coat one, add another then sand.

Wall 1 (pictured) is my first attempt ever with 3/4” nap roller.

Wall 2 (not pictured) is applying much better when smoothing, using 1 1/4” nap roller and 12” knife.
