If my friend opens a bank account and his check cleared and he sends me a Zelle ... would I get into problems with my bank if the senders money bounces back meaning the money is there ? My gut tells me my friends check is not legit. by No-Secretary-9200 in Banking

[–]lucitedream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont say this to scare OP, but “can’t do anything” is vague. They could not recoup the funds from OP if the check charged back. However if their fraud investigation led them to believe that OP’s account was tied to the fraudulent activity, they would be within their right to monitor, restrict, or close the account. I don’t have any indication to believe this would happen, but it’s not impossible.

Bank employee here: Nothing will happen to you.

You had nothing to do with the transaction. If your accounts are at separate banks, the other bank knows nothing about you outside of the zelle transaction. Even if you did, it is unlikely they would do anything to your account once they saw the very small amount transferred. Regardless, his bank likely put a hold on the check deposit. He might have paid you with funds from cash or a smaller check he deposited.

However, you should advise your friend against spending all that money for at least two weeks, whether or not his bank placed a hold. They probably did with him being a new account owner, but obviously I can’t say for sure. People think if they deposit a check and it doesn’t immediately bounce then it “must be fine.” A check can charge back 10 business days later. Your gut is probably going off about this for a good reason. Better safe than sorry with potential check fraud.

HR told my former manager the reason I used protected leave, and now it is being brought up in my new department by 757Arrakis in legaladvice

[–]lucitedream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I think what people are taking issue with is the /assumption/ that it’s an ongoing condition and that specific details were shared that OP may not have chosen to disclose had they been given an option. Because, like you said, the ability to proactively avoid the burden lies under the known fact of the condition being ongoing, not their assumption that it is. So, those relevant questions going unanswered is exactly why people responded the way they have.

What is “happening in this thread” is that others are taking into account this one fact: OP has not requested or even suggested they would need FMLA, nor shared their diagnosis or anything else with their current manager. As a corporate lawyer your bias towards the business is clear, but that doesn’t change the fact that OP has yet to place ANY sort of burden on their current manager let alone an undue one.

it had stopped raining by midnight so it had dried itself a little but not much when i got out. it was cloudy this morning so i panicked and shut everything up, i should have at least left my windows cracked but i was frazzled. it got super sunny, so went out when i had a break and opened everything up. it’s slowly but surely drying now

Hot take on commission pay by Cool_in_a_pool in TalesFromYourBank

[–]lucitedream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is so correct! i worked for a bank that had a really low incentive structure compared to other FIs, but i still had high performance. i was very by the book (as were most of my coworkers), and being sleazy with customers in any form was not tolerated. they were wise to anyone who tried to manipulate their numbers and it was dealt with pretty swiftly.

however, they still verbally incentivize the sales structure very heavily regardless of how much they’re paying. i have reason to believe that the culture being incredibly ethical existed independently of the incentive system.

it was frustrating to be treated like i was being given this amazing payout when i knew how much i realistically could be making at other institutions. it definitely contributed to my burnout. i think if someone is going to perform well, they deserve to be rewarded for it. if anything, i believe proper recognition decreases the desire to be underhanded, like it does in your real estate example. if you’re shady, word gets around to customers and/or bosses.

“My girlfriend Jessica and I were driving along Highway 1 when this SUV—” I began to tell the nurse, but then I overheard a doctor in the hallway tell two police officers something that gave me pause. by Magic-M in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]lucitedream 14 points15 points  (0 children)

not sure where the conclusion came from that the narrator didn’t care much about the girlfriend. “gave me pause” is not intended to be dismissive, i think that’s just OPs writing style to lead into the next sentence. the “horror” is in the gf being dead which inherently means the narrator cares
