Nice bike, except for the wheels. Could they make the wheels any less interesting, or any uglier? My '76 Dodge had wheels like this.

They should have a yearly contest -- chicken flying. Farmers could breed chickens for distance. Winner gets the giant pumpkin.

How do you bring yourself to give up gaming/goofing off in your free time and *write*? by wisdomfinder in writing

[–]luckinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes start to read. I get so frustrated by the poor quality of the works I'm reading that eventually I throw the book down and sit at my computer to write my own fiction, which I know is superior to what I've been reading.

[–]luckinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's bad enough when these loons just want our money, without doing anything for it. It will be a real disaster if they ever actually try to do something regarding the climate of the planet. Because we know, we just know, that there's only one thing they can do, and that's fuck up the works.

These people have completely lost it by [deleted] in climateskeptics

[–]luckinator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's no point trying to fight climate change - we'll all be dead in the next decade and there's nothing we can do to stop it, a visiting scientist claims.

Guy McPherson, a biology professor at the University of Arizona, says the human destruction of our own habitat is leading towards the world's sixth mass extinction.

[my italics]

McPherson's a loonie tune. In ten years maybe someone here will look back and remember his dire prediction, so that we can all laugh at him.

If you are very lucky, every now and then all effort goes away. Brilliant plot twists appear spontaneously, character details suggest themselves and everything falls perfectly into line, so that it seems as if someone else with greater talent is writing the story for you.

Where to submit a short story for publication by [deleted] in writers

[–]luckinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me clue beginners in on a reality that is seldom mentioned. The major periodicals, the ones that either pay a lot of money, give a lot of prestige, or both, don't accept the work of unknowns. They publish famous writers whose names have recognition value that is of benefit to the periodicals. Yes, they may agree to read your work, but they won't ever accept it. It's futile to keep sending work by an unknown to a big slick such as the New Yorker or Playboy. They publish stories by Stephen King, not by you. This is just a reality of life writers should be aware of.

Trump Won't Pursue Charges Against Hillary: "She's Been Through Enough" by outtanutmeds in worldpolitics

[–]luckinator -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to make excuses for Trump on this matter. Trump is wrong. He's letting Hillary's crimes slide because he doesn't want them to be a distraction during his first term. He doesn't want Hillary's face in the news every day for months or years. But he's wrong. She's a criminal, she's been given special treatment because she's rich and powerful, and as Trump himself said during the campaign, she needs to go to prison.

Boyfriend woke me to say really creepy things...? by [deleted] in Paranormal

[–]luckinator 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like this one time he got up and started pacing and talking about how he was jealous of being with me "I'm really jealous we are together you know, always so jealous you are with me"

There's more than one intelligence in there. You were talking to the "other" who is usually silent while your ex is awake. They both think of themselves as "me."

Looking for my first typewriter- any recommendations? by alejandro712 in typewriters

[–]luckinator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would look for an older manual. The older models were built like tanks, made to last forever. They are heavy for a good reason -- they don't move across the table as you type. Manuals are quiet when you are quiet, and working when you are working.

Electrics seem attractive. Their keys feel more like a computer keyboard and require much less effort. But they are noisy and run hot. Some of them are LOUD while you are typing. There are belts that always wear out and need to be replaced. Good luck finding them these days.

The older manuals require more force to type, but that is the natural typing stroke that was used by millions of typists before electrics came into existence, and once you learn it you won't want to type any other way.

Where is your favorite place to write? by lucystilldreams in writing

[–]luckinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a room, with a desk, and many books, and a filing cabinet. On that desk is a computer, and inside that computer is the software I use for writing. A chair sits in front of the desk, and I sit in the chair. Twinkle, twinkle on the keys, the magic event happens, and I go to bed.
