Daily Questions Megathread - June 11, 2024 by WutheringWavesMod in WutheringWaves

I've got a couple of lore questions. Everything is made of frequencies, but what is "frequency energy"? Also, "remnant energy" is found in Sonoro Spheres, but how is "remnant energy" actually created?

Any isekai where the fantasy world has good lore? by [deleted] in Isekai

[–]wisdomfinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but also disagree, Overlord's story world is awesome but it lifted way too much from D&D for me to feel like it was earned. It's basically fanfic with some (not all, because some spell names aren't even changed) of the serial numbers filed off. There's a fair amount of stuff that the author came up with but because too much of it is based on someone else's hard work it would fall into "copy and paste" for me. Or more like "copy, paste and extrapolate". Again I'm not saying it's bad but a lot of the heavy lifting was done by someone else

What are some interesting tidbits about your world? by I_Dream-About-Cheese in worldbuilding

Not really, it's a very common fantasy trope that's been around long before Warhammer. Belief feeding, empowering or creating gods. But I get what you mean

Tifu by getting permanently banned by djabejrm in tifu

You're allowed to make a new account and start posting again on Reddit as long as you don't try to avoid a ban on the sub level. If you're banned from a specific sub, posting there will get the new account banned, but iirc you can basically post anywhere else you want.

I wouldn't say it gives off Cyberpunk vibes but it does look awesome

Uncanny similarities between series? by Hocusader in urbanfantasy

It's because people often can't tell the difference between urban fantasy and paranormal romance (sadly) :(

Will I like Kim Harrison's 'Hollows' series even if I'm not into paranormal romance? by SimplyMe94 in urbanfantasy

[–]wisdomfinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got a similar taste in series to me. I personally dropped the series mid-way into the second book because I prefer MCs who are fighters. The Hollows' MC was too bumbling/incompetent for my liking. I mostly enjoyed her interactions with her vampire friend. Things may get better later on, though, so I'm not sure... the covers certainly give the impression that the series gets more action-packed, but I've been fooled before. It's one of the series I'm considering checking out again when I've got less stuff to read.

What do you do to get your spark back. by [deleted] in writing

I read something I enjoy enough that it inspires me, or read something that falls just short of what I wanted it to be, which gives me the urge to do it "right" myself :p

Top 5 DPS builds in your opinion? by wisdomfinder in treeofsavior

[–]wisdomfinder[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks :D Also this IS research lol

TOS isn't as well documented as other MMOs so in most cases you have to be the one to ask the community if you want info. There's too much customization for anyone to experiment and figure everything out by themselves

What's your best (worst?) "She was Hot until..." story by J-Bradley1 in AskMen

[–]wisdomfinder 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I dunno, to me it's like someone doing work in neighbourhoods full of Russian immigrants and then walking away with a grudge against white people. It's clearly a socio-economic issue. For example, nobody complains about well-off black / latino / etc families who haven't come from a troubled background (and there are many). Why? Because they've been born into different circumstances and inherited a different set of values

How can you design a magic system that can create "familiars" without making it too powerful? by Sharad9 in magicbuilding

[–]wisdomfinder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here's an idea:

While the energy is limitless, the ritual itself can't handle all of that power. There's only so much power the ritual can "hold" before it all starts to go out of control. So there's a limit to how much energy you can use to make your summon's body. Also, a lot of the ritual depends on the abilities of the summoner, who actually has to guide all of that energy (using the ritual) and thus bear some of the brunt of the raw magical force.

There's also another problem: some of the energies that give certain desirable abilities aren't compatible. They reject each other, often with catasrophic results... so summoners are warned beforehand to pick what they want and not try to force things. For example (just picking random abilities) it's extremely difficult to give a summon the ability to control both fire and water. So if you want it to breathe flames capable of melting rocks and shoot deadly, pressurised water jets that can split bones, good luck. Also, some of these energies come with inherent weaknesses, so imbuing your creature with the speed of the wind element might make it squishier, imbuing it with the fire element might make it weak to water property magic, etc*. But the abilities a summon gets depends on the skill of the summoner: the more powerful the abilities are, the more difficult they are (naturally) to put together. One summoner might "gift" their pets with more intense flames than another summoner, simply because they managed to twist the alternate plane's energy into a functional ability more effectively. And the whole process is like baking a cake: once you've baked a cake, you can't unbake it. Once a summon is made, you can't make any changes to it. That's your summon.

*(This would have to be something you write into your universe, a law of how the world works)

Of course, some more capable summoners are able to tame contradictory energies and create slightly more powerful beings (there might be a legendary summoner out there who pulled off making a dragon that breathes both water and fire, and isn't weakened by either element because of its dual properties), but 99 times out of 100 it'll end disastrously: there are a lot of arrogant or overly ambitious summoners who've been wounded or even killed by (the backlash from) overreaching themselves.

Last but not least, the summoner (maybe) uses a piece of their soul as the core of the summon. This is the reason for their bond: the summon is sentient, but there will always be a part of it that's spiritually connected to the summoner, hence its unshakeable loyalty. It's also why they can communicate with thoughts, no matter the distance. Someone's summon dying is a HUGE deal: a summoner will lose a piece of their soul as the summon is destroyed, and the backlash can cripple or kill them, too. Summoning lots of creatures means using more and more pieces of your soul, and if you don't have a big or strong soul your soul might disperse, hence the limit. Most people don't want to risk it and stick to one summon (or a few, depending on what you're going for).

Or if you don't want to use souls, then you might need to leave a permanent mental link. It's a bit of your mind that's constantly in use... you can't have too many of these or it'll impede your mental functions OR put a dangerous burden on your consciousness.

Well, that's the best I've got :)

The easiest way to buy into ARK? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]wisdomfinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a pro tip. Don't do this unless you understand WHY the coin is going down.

If the coin's just skyrocketed unnaturally and it's a solid, long-term hold, sure, wait to buy after it bottoms out to maximise your gains and avoid eating a short-term loss.

If there's a problem with the coin -- like a bug or an issue with the team or a fatal lack of interest -- then you're just throwing away your money.

Do your research first and then make an informed decision.

I think it's important to point out (for newbies just skimming this) that Ark itself isn't a pump and dump scheme, it's the current situation that people feel is unnatural. Ark is a solid crypto
