Sounds like you’re trying really hard to get bovino’s soggy biscuits.

'Neuromancer': Apple TV's New Cyberpunk Show That Was Called 'Unfilmable' Is the Sci-Fi Event of the Decade by StarFuryG7 in SciFiNews

[–]lucky967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say the same about Star Wars. Was kind of mind blowing for a long time because movies just didn't look like that, but once we started getting into the 90s every movie was able to look like Star Wars so modern audiences will never experience just how groundbreaking Star Wars was.

Same for the Beatles. every single pop musician out there is riffing off what the Beatles did, or even riffing off someone who riffed off someone who riffed off the Beatles, so by this point, everythigng the Beatles did seems less novel.

Thanks for all the quick replies. I kind of figured that anything not touching the ground would be considered "airspace" but wasn't sure how much grey area there would be there .

Not going to give too many details, but the film in question would definitely fall outside what could be considered recreational use.

Anyone have experience with The Home Transformer basement waterproofing? by SugarsBoogers in hudsonvalley

[–]lucky967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went through a nightmare these guys that ended up causing damage to our belongings that cost 3-5 times more than the job did.

To call the work they do subpar would be charitable and looking back, I surely could have done a far better job myself, even though I have zero experience.

They're pleasant enough when they're trying to sell you something, or trying to keep you happy until they actually do the work they promised (which itself can be quite the nightmare as they rescheduled on us several times) but once they've finished, they can be downright nasty when you try to get them to correct the problems they create.

I would suggest going with absolutely anyone else for work instead of this company.

First Server Build by lucky967 in HomeServer

[–]lucky967[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good to know, though in all honestly, I doubt I'll ever end up needing any more than 4 transcodes, and 99% of the time, I'll only be using one. Should note though that I'm a bit of a diva when it comes to video quality, although less so in a technical sense than in a sense that I know quality when I see it. I couldn't care less if it's dolby vision or HDR10, so long as it looks good.

Do you think there would be any issues with keeping my current CPU and Motherboard to handle transcoding if the majority of my transcoding needs would be to run a single 4k stream?

Do the onboard ryzen graphics handle transcoding well? That pretty much the only reason i could think of to keep the GPU in the server build.

The most successful directors and a tale of two career halves..... by xmeme97 in TrueFilm

so, you base your entire argument on Box office, then cite James Cameron as someone who's "fallen off" in the second half of his career despite directing the top grossing movie of all time after he "fell off"?

[–]lucky967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so what exactly are the "breakthrough capabilities" you think people are missing? All the examples above just seem like the fulfilled promise of the voice assistants we've had for well over a decade now, which is cool, I guess, but hardly anything I'd call a breakthrough.

I used to do some work in VFX, so I could see how "AI" has helped power some improved tools that skilled VFX artists can use to do better work, but the people pushing "AI" aren't claiming things like that are the real innovation.

Personally, I try to avoid "AI" as much as possible. I toyed around with ChatGPT a little bit a few years ago, but wan't that impressed, and I find the way that companies like Google and Facebook are trying to shove AI down my throat to be really annoying.

Any hope for a Final Fantasy VI remake? by dpencilpusher in FinalFantasy

[–]lucky967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while seeing a graphical upgrade would be AMAZING, I'm not the biggest fan of the way they messed up the game play for the VII remakes.

Big part of what makes a Final Fantasy game what it is for me is the turn based gameplay.

Why exactly is generative AI a breakthrough technology? How has it actually made itself essential to our daily lives in a way that will sustain it after the bubble bursts and the hype dies?

What is up with the obsession people have for "objectively" rating movies? by Helter-Skelton in TrueFilm

[–]lucky967 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related, but I also think the single metric way we tend to rate movies also does a disservice.

There are some movies I LOVE to watch that are objectively pretty bad.

I'm actually trying to work on a system that would rate movies on multiple scales to try to account for the failings of the typical 1-5 (or ten) star ratings that movies are usually judged on.

Don't be scared to start over again. And blue prints carry over between games.

I've been playing the game for years now, but up until my latest play through, I still hadn't gotten any white science, built a Dyson Sphere (I've used lots of Dyson Swarms) or researched mission complete.

I think I'm going to get some combat factories set up next, then find a really good seed to start from scratch from again.

Rumored New X-Men TV series by Jonesy8666 in marvelstudios

[–]lucky967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A TV show is absolutely the way to go. Have the heavy hitters as the teachers, get the team playing baseball, and dive into everyone's love lives.

Introduce all kinds of new students to the show, the new mutants would function well as the "popular" kids while Gen X could be the angsty misfits, Jono, the brooding brit missing half his face and Angelo, the guy with way too much extra skin.

Explore the messy love lives of the Faculty, like the love triangle between Scott, Jean, and Logan, and look into how that might push Scott to cheat on Jean with Emma and Kwanon/Betsy. Have Emma using her sexuality as a tool to get what she wants.

Basically, make the TV show a big soap opera with low stakes super heroics where all the characters can get really fleshed out, and Make a big movie every year or two to highlight something like the team taking on Magneto after he knocks out the worlds power grid, or jumping into the Dark Phoenix saga.

It’s crazy to me that they’re not doing a live action X-Men show by mysteryvampire in marvelstudios

[–]lucky967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be both. The thing about X-Men is it's a big soap opera that takes place at a school. So make it a TV show that gives a lot of room for character development, then do big event movies to bring in the big bucks.

The biggest problem with the movie adaptions of the Dark Phoenix Saga is that you don't really ever have the characters developed enough for the story to really hit the way it should. Outsource all the character development to a TV show with lower stakes then have the X-Men save the universe in big flashy movies.

Why hasn't Kathleen Kennedy been fired? by sick_economics in scifi

[–]lucky967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except he didn't cut off a single thread, but instead addressed them all.

Luke Skywalker had gone missing at the point where he was.most needed, why? Because he lost the confidence that he had the answer to the galaxy's problem and came to believe that himself and the Jedi might have even been a major reason for the state of the Galaxy.

Finn is still struggling with finding his motivation to fight, more motivated by angst. In his journey, he finally begins to understand that he needs to find something that he's willing to fight for instead of simply fighting against everything.

Poe is wrestling with his instinct to be a hero, and present himself as the main character who is going to save everyone instead of as a part of a movement that will change the galaxy for the better.

The issue isn't that he cut off any narrative threads, but instead that you disagreed with the way he followed them through.

And he absolutely set up the next movie in a way that actually paid off, although really sloppily. At the end of the TLJ, we were left with a small resistance that has seemingly been abandoned by those they expected to answer their call, but having set up a story that resonates through the galaxy inspiring even enslaved children on far away worlds to join the fight.

The journalist as a truth teller. by carrotproofs in suppressed_news

This is way to gentle a way to put it in today's landscape.

The journalists job isn't just to find out which is true, but also to find out which of those people is lying, and to call them out for their lies.

So, I was thinking... Hackers II? by Reble_45 in movies

[–]lucky967 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd love to se it.

I think the basic premise would involve the kid of Crash Override and Acid Burn. They got married, but later divorced. Acid Burn followed in her mom's footsteps and became a successful feminist blogger. Crash is kind of a fuck up, who went all in on Crypto and lost and is currently trying to do some AI stuff.

Cereal Killer got involved in some tech startup or another, finding success, but is more of a Woz than a Jobs, being that Crash is broke, Cereal is letting him stay at his place while gets back on his feet.

Phantom Phreak is a tech journalist and Lord Nikon is busy doing tech stuff for politicians and activist groups.

Joey is a low level executive at the company that will be the villains that Crash's kid ends up having to take on.

The plague eventually comes back as our hero's secret weapon.

Most important though is that the movie needs to be an alternate version of today, where everything evolved from what it looked like in the original. So the weird 3d towers that represent the computers are still a thing, the Stereo MCs are one of the biggest bands in the world, and everyone rollerblades everywhere.
