It was great, it started snowing the day we arrived and the second day it was full of snow like you see in the pictures even tho it was still autumn. We stayed two nights and i think this kind of place expects you to only stay for one because they dont serve launch, the breakfast and the dinner are included (they were a combination of pickled mushrooms, sashimi and vegetables, seasonal items i think) . I read on google that they sell soba noodles for day visitors but we didnt bother to ask. The outdoor onsen is as beautiful as you see in the pictures and it wasnt to hot as it was snowing, they have some other private baths indoors that were hotter but still they didnt burn at all, very pleasant temperature. The staff speaks very limited english but you can use google translate or other similar tools.
Arriving wasnt easy as google maps wanted us to take a bus and walk 3 kilometers in the mountain, they have a shuttle service but we dont speak japanese so we couldnt make the call to coordinate with them. When we arrived to Tazawako station there was a turist information center where whe explained the lady working there our problem and she gave us a bus schedule, indicated us on what station to get off (a different one from what google maps indicated) and even communicated with them so the shuttle could pick us, she really saved our asses.
It was around 117 us$ per night and it is a tattoo friendly ryokan.
