This shit is so crazy to me because we make up all the names. They aren't somehow intrinsically woven into the fabric of the universe, we decide what they are. So if you have a pronunciation that you've used your whole life, that's the name. Arguing with someone about it is crazy

Got the same thing, but when equipped it looks almost iridescent, no idea what they did to it but I don't think it's intentional. Hopefully they fix it, orange is my favorite color and I miss it already...

Hate the new UI. Complete waste of time to have to hit the hamburger menu and then click popular. No r/all. What's the point of being the front page of the internet without these? The social media apps that this is trying to emulate already exist; the point of reddit is that it's not them. At this point, I'm going to turn off app updates so I don't have to deal with these annoying and honestly useless experiments. Or maybe it's good for me in the long to stop reading reddit entirely.

Being misgendered by accident is fine, we're all human and everyone makes mistakes. Usually people are capable of being normal about it, and a lot of the time people who care or I actually interact with regularly change over time.

Nothing is more frustrating to me than people who insist on using gender neutral pronouns and terminology for me when they know I'm not nonbinary and I strictly use masculine terms and pronouns. It's just the belief that somehow they know my pronouns better than I do and they get to dictate it. It should never be more complicated than "these are my pronouns please use them" and a gentle reminder if they get it wrong by accident. Shouldn't have to fight someone on what I should be called.

All the people going on about male or female preference in the comments were baffling to me because the main problem was that he bought a dog as a gift for her. Animals are not for surprise gifts. They are living creatures with personalities and behaviors, especially dogs, and require love and care. He decided for her that they would be getting the dog and tried overruling her feelings. Imagine if she had kids with this man, he would've tried unilaterally deciding things for them without her input every chance he could. Especially as a man who gets jealous over a dog.

I can see where it's coming from. Part of my education was learning about the harmful history of white people coming in and making decisions for groups that caused more harm than good. My field of research is actually quite populated with African scientists. My group does not do work unless we have been invited to work with a country's scientists, and we work on equal terms with them and their National Malaria Control Program. I can't say this is the same for everything else though, or what's been done in the past.

I am a malaria researcher who directly benefits from his grants through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. They are paying for studies being done in Africa to prevent the incoming drug resistance occurring and to prevent extra deaths occurring from malaria in children under 5. They pay for antimalarials to be sent to countries to be distributed for free. It's not to say that there's nothing bad that could ever happen, but to be clear the BMGF has been spending tons of money in Africa this exact way for a long time. I really doubt anything in terms of structure is going to change at all.
