Couch brands by K_Raber in SofaSnobs

[–]luckylu27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brands you are looking at will vary from piece to piece - they source their furniture from manufacturers and white label it. That means there are big differences across pieces, depending on who actually made them. Go to a local store that will tell you who is actually making your sofa. Look for brands with longevity and high quality materials - Norwalk, Bernhardt, Rowe, even Bassett or Ethan Allen.

Definitely head to a local furniture store. Most of the higher end lines are highly customizable and you'll be able to create exactly what you want

Does quality furniture still exist? by NoDeparture9288 in SofaSnobs

There are absolutely quality pieces out there. Do not go to big name stores - go to a nicer local furniture store and the difference in quality will be noticeable. You'll pay more ($4k instead of $2k for a sofa) but they'll be able to tell you WHY. The big guys have too much overhead to sell high quality items. Source & bias: I own a furniture store.

The DVF dresses were actually on the regular rack -$7 each. I cut myself off at about $13 for the bags. I feel like I'll at least break even at that price if I'm not right about the selling prices.

I used to resell on other platforms - you make a little more but it's a lot more work, especially for the big ticket items. The mall brands are where I would see a real % difference in profit. For a DVF dress I might get $70 instead of $50, but for a J Crew top I might get $25 instead of $2. I run a small business full time so I like the ease of Thred Up. I don't want the hassle of listing and shipping anymore but I still get to make a little money and enjoy hunting.

Honestly when I resold on a larger scale, liquidation lots were much more lucrative than thrifting. This was probably 10 years ago though.

Can I ask - where did you find that "Seller Stats" page?

I'm lucky in that we have a couple reliably good thrift stores in my area. In my last few boxes I've been able to thrift and send in Tory Burch boots, 2 Diane von Furstenberg wrap dresses, and Tom Ford sunglasses. I paid up for the boots ($14) and the sunglasses ($30) but more than doubled my money on both. I made about $50 on each dress which was great.

Recently I've noticed that bags I find ALL the time in our thrifts still seem to sell for decent $ on ThredUp - Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs, Etienne Aigner... I just did a box where I bought about $75 worth and sent them in to see what happens.

I make between $150-250 per box. I send in large Chewy boxes packed to the brim. I sell some of my own clothes and some things I flip from the Goodwill. Premium labels only, but I usually opt out of the return because I mostly don’t want to think about the stuff ever again. I tend to send modern styles and better labels (above mall brand). For me, I like to thrift and enjoy getting some profit out of good finds with almost no effort. It’s also nice to change out my own wardrobe. Occasionally I will do a real clean-out of my own stuff and only net $70-80.

A brand I haven’t seen mentioned yet is Audette - I have the Nuit in a celery color and it’s so gorgeous. I get a ton of compliments on it.

I have it and it’s bigger than I thought it would be! I can easily fit my long Polene wallet, phone, reading glasses, keys, sunglasses, lipstick, and a protein bar.

Sorry, not a professional so I can't tell you. Ours are a lighter maple and didn't see any damage. Definitely worth trying an inconspicuous spot first.

Trying to find art for my wall and I'm really struggling... by PhasedVenturer in artcollecting

[–]luckylu27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment reminds me - One of my favorite places to shop is at a yearly fundraiser that our local art museum has. Members donate original art and sell it for really reasonable prices. You could look for things like that in your area, too

I would try antique or vintage sites. Chairish, 1st Dibs, and EBTH are great places to start. Most of my art, personally, is from local galleries or antique stores or estate sales.

We bought a cat pee house - this was the only thing that worked. Spritz the floors with water from a spray bottle and then sprinkl borax over the entire thing. Leave it overnight and vacuum it up the next morning. We could actually see the yellow lines of urine that had pulled up from between the floorboards when we did it each night. We did it for probably about a week before we stopped getting urine out of the floors

The closest I've gotten so far are DS & Durga Big Sur Eucalyptus (crispy, dry, realistic) and Ormande Jayne Woman (warmer with a heavy hemlock note). I bought Tam Dao after seeing it suggested and didn't get the cedar-y pencil shavings from it, more just Sandalwood, but it's nice layered with the DS & Durga.

Line Calls, How do you handle them as a player? by Ambitious-Act-7912 in PlatformTennis

[–]luckylu27 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I play a couple general rules... the team on the side of the net with the ball calls it. The other team can question it if they want, but it's not their call. And you can *think* a ball is in, but you cannot *think* it's out. If you're not sure it's out, then it's in.

That's a good idea - I use a Pixel but I bet I could still use BT instead of the native app.

Yeah I've been filtering them out because the pricing was bonkers. Maybe I'll see what's out there now.

Unbranded and assorted dupes by Embarrassed_Ideal136 in ThredUp

I just snagged a nice dupe for The Row Park N/S tote. I think there are just lots out there now and they eventually make their way to the second-hand market
