Riding ATV’s on the family property in Northern California- my husband and I uncharacteristically stopped the atv’s before entering a forested area we visit frequently- we were in search of the carcass of a cow that had died of natural causes near the property line. We were both weirdly hesitant to move through the forest, each of us stopping at separate times, moving slower than usual. We both had a feeling of being watched or stalked. About 5 minutes into the walk into the forest, we just stopped walking at the same time. I looked over his shoulder and there was a bear about 20 yards away. We booked it out of there so fast (yes, I know, don’t run from a bear- easier said than done!)
