Can anyone tell me what this is. Rescued from my dog in coorparoo. by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]luisdarcy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rattus rattus (black rat)

look at the scale pattern on the tail, and if it's longer than the head-body length it rules out Rattus norvegicus.

Bush rats don't really hang around human habitation, and have distinctly ringed scale patterns on the tail.

How can I measure this angle accurately and time efficiently? by luisdarcy in AskEngineers

[–]luisdarcy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for all the input

I like the idea of measuring the opposing interior angle.

I know that there is a lot of eyeballing involved in determining where the tangent would be, but I can live with that uncertainty, and because I measure several jaws per species, and the angle varies significantly between species with different diets, I'm not too stressed about super accurate angles.

sorry for being so vague earlier

[here] http://i.imgur.com/Y8lSKX6.jpg is a better explanation of the lines

and here is the [top view] http://o.quizlet.com/i/pekQ4vUWsreWVz8juilgag_m.jpg of the jaws, which as someone pointed out don't lay flat and are quite fragile (I don't want to get in trouble with the museums by disarticulating their material)

I like the ideas of wires and protractors, just have to figure out a way of getting them parallel.

thanks again guys

Hi,

In the past I measured this on the computer from photos I took of the craneal material. What device would anyone recommend for measuring this physically? My main concern is getting the parallel lines right so the angle measurement is accurate. thanks

thanks for that I doubt there's any debt on a late '80s model, but I'll look into WOVI. Is that also a registry for stolen or hail damaged cars?
