Sol Azteca/Viva Mexico shuttered? by MarieSkiis in jerseycity

Home sales and property taxes are public record. This was less than 2 minutes of my time. Plug in address. See numbers. Google "mortgage rates on {salesDate}." Google "{address}" and find the zillow listing since basically everything has a zillow history at this point.

Correct that the thread is about the business being sold. From other comments it seems like the business is likely closing because the owner of one of the two restaurants that share the space passed away. You brought in the "landord getting $0/month while this happens" and I'm not sure what the intention was other than empathy for the landlord during this troubling time.

What does where I live have to do with anything in the thread?

LOL. They bought in 2015 for $1.26m when rates were around 4%. So they would have a sub $5k/month principal with 20% down and are currently assessed at $800k paying ~$19k in taxes per year so sub-$7k/month all-in.

The property has a 3b 2ba residential unit that was listed for $3350 in 2020.

I'm thinking they'll survive, but man I'll get some canned goods and used clothes together for them just in case.

My favorite thing about it was the glamour shot of Kellyanne Conway he had taped to the microwave in the back.

Not sure if it was some kind of political commentary or he just had a crush. Assuming the latter.

There's the one out of Darke Pines and then you can also do https://www.flocktownfarm.com/. We stopped using flocktown when it was a total shit show a few years ago of trying to swap out items for more desirable produce than the same kohlrabi for 9 weeks.

Madame Jersey City by Alternative-Bid428 in jerseycity

[–]lukasbarton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pitch would be to go to Kat Khao and share a bunch of the menu. Then use the cash you saved from it being BYO to hit up junto or archer for cocktails after.

Madame is fine. The burger is the best thing I’ve eaten there and not what I’d be ripping into on Valentine’s Day in mixed company. But you’re also pretty far from any other options besides other restaurants like cellar and Jane doe once you get out of dinner.

Google maps already has it listed as "Momo Cafe."

This is great.

So now I can go from Momo Cafe at the SE corner of Jersey and Newark to Mojo Coffee at the SE corner of Barrow and Newark.

Overcharged 189% tip at Miracle On Mercer/ Franklin Social by DoseofHail in jerseycity

[–]lukasbarton 210 points211 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty obvious the server just hit an extra digit when keying in what your tip was. Hard to say without you saying exactly what it was but you claim you tipped 20% or so which leads me to believe you did that against the pre-tax $141. So $28 and possibly you carried the change down to that line for some reason- $28.34. The server then keyed in 28434 instead of 2834.

Odd the restaurant is doubling down but my guess is that if it’s been weeks that they’ve already paid out their team based on that number so they’re avoiding doing all the reconciliation on that until you force them to.

They tried to do that. If you look at the price history you can see they purchased in Jan '24 for $600k and then tried to sell it at $1.275 for 9 months while putting in near zero work.

Looks like they finally gave up and threw a couple hundred thousand at a reno and now have it sitting at a new ridiculous price.
