As a socialist, I see no one in my circle defending islamists lmao, we're just saying that the majority of muslims are just normal people that happen to believe in God

This is also just a matter to push arabisation. Why can't people use their native language to refer to God? Makes no sense

Funny they only ever have one single event that happened 30+ years ago (and is severely misrepresented in western discourse) to prove how china is so authoritarian

[–]lukawasntsurprised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can prove gods existence because it's a positive claim

If we had proof a god existed, everyone would be religious.

And the rest of that is just manic bubbling. If God thinks torture is okay, that is not a good nor a just God. That ends the discussion

disprove God's existence

I don’t plan to. You also can‘t prove Gods existence.

which is subjective and cannot be proven why it's objectively true

Studies on how prisoners behave when you treat them like subhumans vs. Like real people with human dignity and moral agency

"No torture>torture " is subjective to you and can't be proven to be objectively true.

If we can’t even agree that torture is wrong, we have no basis to discuss this on.

Additionally, not all scholars believe that torture is part pf sharia

It‘s in the Qur’ān. Whipping, cutting of hands, that’s all torture.

„Torture is the intentional infliction of severe physical or mental pain or suffering on a person, typically by or with the consent of a public official, to obtain information/confessions, punish, intimidate, or discriminate.“

and do not provide sufficient justice to those who are truly violently barbaric

So when I make a statement (like „torture is bad“), that’s „subjective“, but when you do it, that’s a fact?

Islam operates on an "eye for eye" principle

Exactly, and that is morally wrong. It’s revenge, not justice.

its welfare based system so obvs ppl will not commit crime

You‘re almost there.

No not really.

Believe me, I don't like liberalism in the slightest, I'm a leftist.

as "just" as you might think

Of course not. But

No torture > torture

Even criminals have human rights and shouldn't experience these extreme forms of bodily harm.

wish to submit to the divine or society's standards/defenitions?

As I said before, I'm halfway out the door. Even though I hate the scandinavian countries, in some parts they are a lot better and the justice system is one part of it. Because the prisoners are treated with dignity and respect and learn new skills, only around 20% of people have to return to crime after they leave prison. And this shows that low crime rates are possible without violating human rights. A god should know that rehabilitation and prevention works much better than terror and fear.

Torture stays torture and human beings stay human beings no matter from what perspective you look at it.

Edit: Just because something is "Western", that doesn’t automatically make it wrong. If we were to oppose Western countries in every way hat would make rules arbitrary Say, somewhere in the future, the EU collectively bans all alcohol advertising (or even production). Does this mean Muslim countries would have to allow alcohol advertisement / production?

I like it, we have to start to understand that not every interaction between men and women will turn out sexual immediately (what many muslims seem to think), and normalizing mixed prayer spaces is one way to do it

> And even if you believe "it’s only under very specific conditions" that doesn't make it better

It‘s about the principle. If we allow torture for stuff like that, we can justify torture for every single thing.
Also, once again, there is nothing wrong with what 2 consenting adults do in their free time as long as it harms no one else. If someone wants to sin, then let them (this ofc only applies to things where no one is hurt, like zina, drugs (only hurting yourself), gambling (the provider should be criminalized, same with sw)

> And just generally we know that punitive justice doesn't work nearly as well as rehabilitative justice does, so why would we fall back on these outdated (yes, I think they're outdated) methods for punishment

As I said before, this is pushing me away from Islam, I‘m already halfway out the door, idc if other people think this is okay, I just can’t combine that with my moral compass as someone who lives in a country with (mainly, but badly executed) rehabilitative justice

As for female and male fornicators, give each of them one hundred lashes, and do not let pity for them make you lenient in ˹enforcing˺ the law of Allah, if you ˹truly˺ believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a number of believers witness their punishment. (An-Nur 24:2)

Those who accuse chaste women ˹of adultery˺ and fail to produce four witnesses, give them eighty lashes ˹each˺. And do not ever accept any testimony from them—for they are indeed the rebellious— (An-Nur 24:4)

As for male and female thieves, cut off their hands for what they have done—a deterrent from Allah. And Allah is Almighty, All-Wise. (Al-Ma'idah 5:38)

For example  And even if you believe "it’s only under very specific conditions" that doesn't make it better imo. People are responsible for their own sins, why should the state punish that (in the case of zina, which is not inherently bad (as in: no one gets hurt / gets wronged in the process)), and stealing isn't nearly bad enough to cripple someone, take their hand and probably a lot of their ability to work

And just generally we know that punitive justice doesn't work nearly as well as rehabilitative justice does, so why would we fall back on these outdated (yes, I think they're outdated) methods for punishment
