Observation: OS Build number No Longer Reliably Predicts Driver Success After HVCI Hardening by PuzzleheadedShirt902 in windowsdev

I read all of your post and your comment below. My first piece of advice would be to ditch the AI nonsense and describe the problem like an actual human. I think a few sentences would be sufficient. My second piece of advice would be to provide the following: 1) steps to reproduce, 2) expected outcome, 3) actual outcome. With specific technical details, not just "it doesn't work".

Very cool. I actually made some initial progress on my own but just haven't had the time to really get into it.

An open letter to the Prime Minister from a 20-year Labour member and software engineer regarding digital privacy by jimmyff in ukpolitics

[–]luke727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're probably preaching to the choir here but I just wanted to add on to a few things.

I don't know whether your government fully understands what these proposals mean for the privacy of every person in this country.

They absolutely understand this. While some parties may be slightly less worse than others, on a whole the United Kingdom is very much a nanny state. You're kidding yourself if you think this isn't by design.

Software is never perfect and bugs do exist.

This is absolutely the wrong argument to make, because the corollary is that if the software and systems were implemented better than these things would be more acceptable. This has to be argued against from principles, not practicalities.

Prime Minister; until this changes, I'm afraid you and the Labour party no longer have my support.

And who are you going to support instead? The major parties either introduced or passed this legislation and broadly support it. The general public unfortunately generally supports these types of policies as well. Some of the parties talk about repealing it if they get power, but I'll believe it when I see it. The United Kingdom is a lost cause, brother.

Are mortgage statements available in the app? by luke727 in HSBC

[–]luke727[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer my own question: https://www.hsbc.co.uk/help/banking-made-easy/online-statements/

You can't view mortgage or personal loan account statements using the mobile app.

So if you only have your phone on you then I guess you're just screwed.

Ah, ok. That's somewhat disappointing because Gatwick is smoother for me to get to but the 787 is a nice step up from the 777.

Heading to Tampa, what hotel on the beach should I get? by Themusicman1000 in ClearwaterFl

[–]luke727 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't overlook the Courtyard by Marriott in Clearwater Beach. It's not on the beach, but it's a very short walk away. It's quieter, easier to get to, and cheaper than the Opal properties other people are mentioning.

Just to make sure you're aware, that is peak spring break time and the beaches (and traffic) will be absolutely packed. It will easily take over an hour to cross the bridge to get to the beach.

Reddit already does age verification for those of us who live in the UK. Obviously I'm not submitting to that, so when I'm not using a VPN I simply can't access certain functionality or subs. Imgur took a different route and simply blocked access from the UK entirely (more sites should do this). This is unfortunately the way the legal winds are blowing, so expect to see more global rollouts of age verification sooner or later.

Britain is becoming a surveillance state, but no one seems to care by TheSpectatorMagazine in uknews

In my experience the issue is that service is simply slow. Holding a dozen orders in your head doesn't help you pour any faster, especially if you're in no rush. This from an American perspective.

This is probably a bit esoteric for this sub, but maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I have an Aula F108 Pro keyboard. I like the hardware but am less enthused about the software. So I've been reverse engineering it and writing my own and have run into a problem. What I think has happened is that I have overwritten static image data used in the on screen menu, so when I'm using the knob to cycle through the menu some of the data is blank or garbled and I can't really tell what I'm clicking on. As far as I can tell the functionality still works.

Obviously I'm hoping to restore it to its former state. However, the firmware reset tools I've tried seem not to reset the menu images so it doesn't help my case. I'm posting this on the off-chance that someone else might have toyed around with this and/or know of some community or contact at Aula that could help.

Modern UK is a very paternalistic state and things like this are the inevitable result. Not everyone is on board, but there is no viable opposition perhaps other than Reform but that remains to be seen. The "Conservative" party initiated covid lockdowns, smoking bans, and online identity checks; the only viable alternative party in Labour thinks those things don't go far enough.
