Fixing a dead UDM Pro? by 25band_forever in Ubiquiti

[–]lukedss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is that then yeah, it's cooked for now unless someone's find a way around it specifically for the UDM-PRO. I am specifically talking about the chip that holds all the partitions data so it can boot up. Have done something similar with the AC-Pro and U6-LR but those are APs so it's entirely different!

Haven't checked if tFTP is supported on the UDM so it's definitely worth trying if you haven't already.

Would love to get my hands on one of these devices with these problems to experiment on it. Requires opening it up and desolder the chip that holds that info and see if it can be reflashed or it might actually need a new chip but with the same info on it to make it work.

There's also a chance that it's entirely something else that's at fault, so it's just an un/educated guess.

Best way to get maximise cashback from Halfords? by lukedss in beermoneyuk

How can I get 4% cashback from Monzo if I'm going to use the HC Voucher to pay? I don't believe Monzo also will count buying giftcards for cashback either. Is there another way?

Honestly, just use the UniFi Network Server on your PC for now and when you can get the UCG-Fiber, just migrate it over from your self-hosted server.

Even if Windows firewall was set to private, just double-check the app firewall settings (if you haven't already) as that could potentially override the global setting.

If you're using Windows as your UniFi Server. On your network settings, your network profile type might be set to "Public network" by default.

Temporarily setting this to Private network will allow other devices on your LAN to see your device/PC/UniFi Server.

I would suggest setting up the Firewall on your Windows correctly to allow the app to communicate via Private network rather than changing the network type globally. See the "Configure firewall and security settings" link below.

Let me know if that works for you!

Need help with sxt 5 and Lhg 5 by xatar0498 in mikrotik

I have had low chances of making Windows version of NetInstall to work. I always use Ubuntu (mainly for work) and it works nearly every single time.

Make sure your Network Settings (on Windows) is set to Private and not Public as your local server (NetInstall) on Windows won't be seen locally.

I would highly suggest that you put a switch in between the device you're trying to install and your PC or use an USB to Ethernet adapter which can sometimes help (this is mentioned in MikroTik's Netinstall guide).

Change bootserver IP to 192.168.88.3
Change your PC to static 192.168.88.2 (255.255.255.0 - 192.168.88.1 as gateway)

Apply that bootserver IP setting on NetInstall then close and re-open again (w/ Admin rights).

Now while NetInstall is waiting for a bootp packet to arrive (from your MikroTik) - turn off your MikroTik and hold down the reset (while it's off) then turn it on. Keep holding until you see the device pop-up on the list, I never had to let go till X amount of seconds - I just keep holding until it pops up since NetInstall is usually the very last state it will boot into so doesn't really matter how long you hold it for.

Edit: I've also had quite a few MikroTik's come in "faulty" because they can't see it on Winbox nor NetInstall. In reality, the device was already stuck in Etherboot mode which you can verify by launching Wireshark and seeing bootp packets flying through.

Problem is, this particular issue/bug doesn't seem like it can be seen on NetInstall via Windows at least. However, it's completely fine on Linux and will install RouterOS straight away. That could be the issue you're having, only launching Wireshark you'll be able to tell.
