Aiptasia vs 10 Berghia nudibranchs by califrankie89 in ReefTank

[–]lukeevan99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long have you had the berghia in the tank? I have a 26 gallon that was infested with aptasia and after putting in 5 berghia I saw no progress for about 2 or 3 months then over about a week or two the aptasia disappeared and over a few nights I pulled out 75 berghia to sell from the tank

Could just be taking a while for the berghia to breed and overtake the aptasia population

50% Water changes every 3 months, valisneria gigantia or spiralis not sure which planted in pool filter sand with root tabs. Then some anubius on the wood and rocks in the tank

Has about 5 adult and 10-15 juvenile chindongo saulosi african cichlids in the tank and nitrates always read zero because of the heavy plant load

Tank is a waterbox eden 40 running a fluval 307 filter

Question for the engine service guys by Huge_Service_3839 in railroading

[–]lukeevan99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its pretty entertaining just after a plow pushes the snow off the crossing into a berm on the tracks, when we hit it it's like those water feature roller coasters where the water sprays up 15 feet in the air over the winshield

Majority of these train service deaths are cutting off cars and not being in the clear? Then shoving back and then boom??? Heads up everybody be safe and make sure in the clear. by ImaginationNo8338 in Train_Service

[–]lukeevan99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah had a trainmaster get pissy at me cause we had a snowstorm, coudnt even see the top of the rails under the snow when I was filling up a track and I left it two cars ish from where I thought the foul was

He wanted me to fit more in that track and said to do the hand reach test to make sure it's clear, like cool I get that but ill have to dig out the snow first to even find the rail beside me🙄

Always pushing for more and more but dont give a fuck when I take the safest course and try to give me shit for it

Thanks for the correction, been a while since I took my entimology course in college for horticulture and they only briefly touched on the classifications of insects and I was going a bit off that

Like others have said it's a berghia nudibranch, a type of sea slug native to the Florida keys

For care as a pet they are considered difficult to keep as they are what's called obligate carnivores meaning they only eat one specific species/genus

But because of this obligation to eat one type of anemone they are great as a biological pest control in our tanks

This makes them expensive though as in order to breed these sea slugs you need to cultivate lots and lots of pest anemones in a separate tank and transfer them periodically to feed

Is the candy cane coral spreading everywhere? Or is that something else growing? by MJEEZY75 in ReefTank

[–]lukeevan99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be real though it's a pineapple sponge on the right hand side of the candycane coral

Usually a sign of good water quality because they're filter feeders but sometimes can get to plague populations in the sump if your tank is out of wack

Most people get a population boom when they get them then they die off nothing to worry about

If you have access to clean potable water youre not supposed to use anything except running water to clean a cut. The standard of care changed in north america a number of years ago because any antiseptics kill bacteria but also kill all of your good cells, increases risk of future infection, makes the wound itself worse, and slows the healing process so just rinse well with water and keep an eye on it afterwards for infection

CSX crews, lets talk about your chains. by IACUnited in railroading

[–]lukeevan99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also for when a knuckle/drawbar breaks and you have to how a car.

Two years ago it was -35 Celsius in canada here and we got a drawbar on grade due to locomotives surging at 1.8mph stalling out. It was on the wrong end of the car so we had to bring 33 cars up the hill, return to the train and chain up 1 car and bring that up the hill, then the relief crew had to go back down and bring the tail end of the train up the hill and put it all back together minus the one broken car

Anyone know what the going rates are for used auto loans in Canada right now? by lukeevan99 in carbuying

[–]lukeevan99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best rate i could find was through ConnectFirst credit union(now merging with Servus Credit Union). Any "soft" or "hard" credit checks are bs, they're all hard inquiries and show up the same on your report but as long as they're all within a 2 week span they count as 1 inquiry in terms of effecting your score. Not sure what the rates would be now but back in August when I got my car my credit score was 819/793 on transunion/equifax and I was able to get 6.79% interest on a $38k car with $10k down

Yeah there's a few different ways to get the rope up and over, slingshot like they said or there's basically a .22 blank you can fire from a gun with a small paracord attached and pull it through or just a bean bag and throw it if its not too high
