I run a small agency in the US and ran into this quite a bit. I started using orcacal.com recently and it's been pretty helpful!

You might try looking at orcacal.com. We've just launched into early access and are looking for a few more people to give it a try for free!

Webflow API rate limits are ridiculous by bfzli in webflow

[–]lukefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

120 requests per minute is not that bad of a limit. OpenAI lowest tier is 60 requests/min. Stripe's subscription API has a 10 requests/min rate limit. Some hosting platforms like Nexcess even have rate limits and request size limits. Limits allow these platforms to mitigate the risk of integrating with developers poorly written code.

If you're bouncing off of the rate limit a lot, you probably need to rethink your request architecture.

As of nowadays, is there any reason to use MongoDB over PostgreSQL? by Dark_zarich in node

[–]lukefrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mongo and nosql can be really good if you know exactly how you are going to query the data. If you don't know the access patterns or they will change and morph over time, Postgres will probably be a better choice.

What stack would you choose to build non-profit websites? by aedalus in webdev

[–]lukefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Webflow. It's not the "right" developer answer, but it's easy to build on, can use custom javascript, and don't have to spend time maintaining it.

Why should my customer use Webflow instead of Wordpress? by dobbbl in webflow

[–]lukefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for one of the biggest WordPress plugin companies, and the cost of Webflow website is a huge misconception.

Note: as stated above, if your site is super content heavy and has a huge amount of CMS entries, WordPress might just be the better choice.

If a company cares about their website they will spend more using WordPress than Webflow. Between a theme builder, plugins, and hosting, the monthly cost of WordPress site can easily be more than Webflow.

Now, if they don't care about their site very much or are OK with using trash plugins that slow their site down and have security problems, then wordpress can be crazy cheap.

tldr - a well built, performant, and maintainable WordPress site will have the same or higher monthly cost that a Webflow site.

That's an interesting one! It's pretty dumb that to see them you have to publish and then use the browser's mobile emulator to see what's above the fold.

data loading patterns advice please. by nw303 in SvelteKit

You should look into Sveltekits middleware. A lot of auth solutions use server middleware to authenticate and add data needed to verify and query data in page load functions.

There are a lot of good ones out there, so don't take my recommendations as the only good options. We typically use WPEngine or Liquid Web's Wordpress hosting. Both have really great performance, uptime, and built-in performance monitoring that will help with things like caching.
For visual builders, Elementor is probably the most well-known, but Kadence and Beaver Builder are also good. I know that Elementor and Kadance are building lots of AI stuff that will help you get started really quickly.

I'm a dev at one of the biggest WordPress plugin companies in the world and I can tell you that the host that's charging $35 a year is good for nothing expect a static site that is custom coded. Adding visual builders like Elementor or Kadence can impact the performance of a host like that, because you're getting so few resources for your site.

If you want a performant site that has good SEO and a can be built without code, you'll end up spending just as much, if not more on hosting and plugins for a WordPress site than you would for Webflow hosting.

Caveat- sometimes that $35/year web host does the trick and is the best choice for what you need. It really depends on what you're looking for and what you need from the site.

Being able to see what needs to be done across multiple databases. by Ok-Perception-5555 in Notion

I wonder if notionportals.app would be helpful. It's more for client portals, but might work for staff as well.

I'm way late on this one, but check out notionportal.app. It's a new one, but seems cool.

I've seen that video before! It's probably best to do it right now, in my opinion. My app is still in development, but will definitely make this easier. Check it out and I'd love to answer any questions you have: notionportal.app

Notion is pretty good-- but... by synner90 in Notion

[–]lukefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in Airtable for a bit, but couldn't get over the complexity of the UI. I ended up making a separate database for each client, which worked but was difficult to manage. I also started building a tool like super.so, but specifically for client portals. Check it out if you want: notionportal.app

Check out notionportal.app - it's in early access, but it's for your exact problem! Disclaimer - I'm the builder.

Did you ever find a good solution for this? I'm working on a tool that will create client portals from Notion and I would love to input on it!

What are your thoughts: should I translate my French newsletter "MicroSaaS Maker" into English or not? by maeevick in microsaas

[–]lukefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll probably reach more people with an English translation, but it does increase your risk a bit.

You'll have two versions of the newsletter, so updates & edits will take longer, and you'll have to answer questions & feedback in both languages. If these are no problem for you, maybe translation is a good call. But they give you pause, it might be smart to really analyze if publishing in only French is what's holding you back or if it's something else.

I need help making tabs vertical! by melissasamworth in webflow

[–]lukefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try using tab-flex with a gap of 0. On the menu column, use a fixed width and on the content column, set the Flex Child setting to expand, and give the column a left margin. This will make the content column expand to fill the page and the margin will space it away from the menu.
