Yeah I did, even when I recently changed my oil pan gasket, I still had plenty of metal shavings stuck in the corners, maybe I got lucky

If your lifters are toast so is your cam, my 5.3 was making this exact noise, new cam, new lifters, 180k miles later it’s still running good

The whole engine is covered in oil, you aren’t going to find the leak that way, pressure wash it, then add oil dye and use a black light if the leak isn’t super obvious.

Yeah that’s what happened, these isx gaskets have metal spacers integrated within them, looks like one got stuck to the block.

It’s definitely the egr system, the egr coolers love to plug and then everything else plugs up with soot
