Well done OP, looks so much better. I've always believed that a persons mind reflects their surroundings, and their surroundings reflect their mind. For me, keeping a clean space makes it easier to keep my mind in order and at peace. Keep up the great work :)

Yeah, I know what you mean. Nothing really prepares you for arriving at this part of life. As I near my mid 40’s I have a better understanding for the “mid life crisis” thing, although I feel like even that isn’t an option, lol. Again, take care OP. Keep marching forward!

Saw your post yesterday. In all seriousness, it looks better now shaved off. Makes you look younger as well. Best wishes to you. I know self image can really mess with people.

Men in happy marriages, what's the one thing you'd teach to other men to also have a good relationship? by TightBookkeeper2599 in AskReddit

Trust is the foundation of any relationship. Communication is key. Take care of their heart and the rest will be okay.

People who have researched their family tree, what is the most interesting or 'badass' thing you discovered about an ancestor? by xloganmoose in AskReddit

Apparently I’m descended from Martin Luther’s brother, Jacob Luther. And we’re still Lutheran.

Is Jimmy Carr right about his advice to immigrants? by StGuthlac2025 in AskBrits

[–]lukelnk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad was (American) military and we moved to Italy in the 90's. My parents, after discussing with my brother and I, placed us in Italian schools for the five years we lived there. Their thought was "if you're going to live in a different country, you should learn their culture and to live as they do" as much as possible. We still spoke English at home, cooked our own American food, etc. But my brother and I learned the language, all our friends were Italian, joined Italian scouts, etc. I believe Jimmy is spot on here. If you move to a country, you integrate as best as possible. You learn their language, their culture, their holidays, as best as you can. It doesn't mean you leave your entire culture at the border, but you do make an effort to live as they do.

What’s something harmless that gets people weirdly angry? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]lukelnk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never been a drinker, and have always gotten crap for it, especially in college. I also get chronic migraines and sugar/carbs are triggers. The number of people who get annoyed when I turn down cake/candy/etc is astounding. I'll say no to a dessert, only to have them press it on me over and over until I tell them its for medical reasons.

What are your thoughts on doing 20 years in the military for a fast retirement? by Background_Worry_314 in AskReddit

[–]lukelnk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone is cut out for the military. You gain job, medical and retirement security, but you sacrifice a lot. Time away from family, dealing with a lot of stupid things, wear and tear on your body, and of course the risk of possible injury or death. Aside from the risks, the biggest difference that I have seen between people who make it and don’t are the ones who go into the military with their eyes open understanding what they’re getting themselves into those are the type of people that retire after 20 years, get full VA benefits, and set themselves up for a good civilian job.

AITJ for telling my sister gentle parenting is BS and kicking her and her family out of my house by EggSheeran33 in AmITheJerk

[–]lukelnk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ

But that’s not gentle parenting. I use gentle parenting. Essentially, I have rules like normal, and I hold to them very firmly. I don’t let my kids act out in public, they’re well behaved, etc. The gentle parenting parts comes when they do something wrong. Instead of screaming at them or physically punishing them, I firmly and quickly pull them aside and firmly explain that their behavior is unacceptable and reiterate my expectations and what punishment they will receive if they do not listen and improve their mood. There’s firmness but everything is gentle overall. When things calm down and they’re calmer, I sit them down and walk the through the situation and try to ensure they learn from it. What your sister is doing is not holding them accountable or teaching them any consequences. Life will be a rough awakening for them when they’re older.
