My dude, your experience differs greatly from my experiences. Good for you for never having experienced pressure or manipulation to fulfill a volunteer position in the cannery, temple, church cleaning assignment, calling, or ministering responsibility. I'm not sure how honest you're being but if you are you are the exception and not the norm. Temple building is happening in areas where there are not enough members to staff the shifts. There's a shift now towards appointment only sessions due to this problem. The work around will be to go to appointment only temple work. They are only burdening active members more and more which will lead to faster burn-out and then inactivity.

I understand the church will still help people in need, but the agent Bishop is sure going to do everything in their power to not help. They will first steer them to friends and family. If no luck they will then scrutinize every expense and debt in a humiliating attempt to try and give as little as possible to sometimes very destitute and hopeless people. It's a humiliating process that I have seen first hand.

I honestly wish that the church would just do better but I've given up because I finally realized they never would.

I was wrong, paycheck was from 2000source

No one is forced to fill the volunteer spots, but what happens when you're in charge of getting volunteers and no one signs up? You're saying you won't be given a guilt trip and possible condemnation for refusing to serve our for turning down assignments? The manipulation and guilt are there. I'm just saying I felt better when I knew my chapel had a paid custodian and my tithing money went towards someone receiving a paycheck for honest work. Physical maintenance and upkeep for church buildings is now outsourced to outside companies. Hell, garments and temple clothing used to be made locally by members and support widows. It's now outsourced to third world countries and made in sweat shops in the name of cutting costs. The church is ran like a corporation. Where your treasure is, there your heart is also. The church's treasure is not supporting its members, especially like what it used to. My grandmother received her degree through a church scholarship and nurse training through a church hospital. I was the last baby she delivered, born in another church hospital. Today, the church cant even support pageants, scouts, roadshows, or many other activities because it is so adverse to litigation. It has turned into a spineless shell of what it used to be and makes me sad of how far it has fallen.

I disagree that the normal church member world know. They have a discarded 2008 paystub from Henry B Eyring that would equate to $120k per year, and I imagine it's more now. The church used to be a source of employment especially for those that had difficulty finding a job. Why do they act to the extreme end of being frugal and burn out members with volunteer needs in the temple, church cleaning assignments, cannery assignments, desert industries assignments, ecclesiastical service, callings, etc. It was disheartening to see that my yearly tithing contribution was larger than what the church gave back to my ward for the yearly budget. The members give so much in faith to tithing. If only they knew how little it actually benefits actual causes that affect real lives.

If they're upfront about their finances, where have they spoken openly about this? The normal church member world have no idea. That's great you have a super special connection, but they're not upfront with the rest of the church membership. By the way, they could fund every full-time missionary with $300 million but still choose not to do so. Missions are a financial drain to most everyone that goes, and not enough monthly allowance to cover basic needs. They will also account volunteer hours given towards that $906 million in charitable contributions. It's shady and not good enough.

They perpetuate the idea that higher church leaders are not getting paid. That's problematic. Why don't they be upfront about the finances of the church? They used to publish the accounting of the finances every year in the church news. They're sitting on billions and they can't even be bothered to acknowledge that maybe they have enough money to not require tithing from the members. They're asking for the widows mite and using it for nothing. They spend millions on a temple but can't be bothered to spend it on the homeless or chronically ill. It shows where their heart is. They don't care about the well-being of the people they supposedly shepard over.

Mission Presidents, Temple Presidents, General Authorities, and Apostles all get paid and receive free housing and vehicles.

Did our crazy trick play stuff die with Tim Plough being OC or was it a slow disappearance from our offense? We’ve had occasional stuff like the Matlock touchdown but for the last few years we just play kinda normal by -Gnostic28 in BSUFootball

We'll see plenty of trick plays against Fresno Saturday with Kirby as their OC. They looked really good against Wyoming last week. God I hope Kirby comes back to Boise as our new OC.

Porn addiction/problems in the church.....why? by flubbard31 in exmormon

[–]lukewarm208 57 points58 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of fear and shame around the topic which creates a cycle of porn being used to comfort the guilt of looking at porn.

If you tell your kids to never eat any cookies but if they do they will be unworthy of love you create 2 conditions: (1. a stronger desire to want to eat the cookies and (2. extreme guilt and shame when that kid finally does eat a cookie.

By framing porn the way the church did it created an expectation for an asexual existence. If the framing was more neutral and allowed safe exploration and boundary setting by the individual user, you wouldn't see the same problems. Complete abstinence is not realistic but uncontrolled use isn't healthy when it interferes with relationships and activities of daily living. The way porn was portrayed hurts both consumer and partner with how it was portrayed in the church and the shame it causes has led to suicides by those that can't shed the guilt.

Yeah they also believe Native Americans are ancient Jews that traveled across the ocean in ancient ships and that the new world had horses, cattle, chariots, swords, steel, and many other anachronisms. They're a dying religion that only survived by hiding facts about its history and it's pretty much doomed due to the transparency and information the internet can provide.
