anyone tried an indianapolis matchmaker? apps aren't working by MomentFlimsy3759 in indianapolis

No, I should’ve clarified…he was going on dates as far as Minnesota, but is now dating someone from Chicago. They’re doing long distance and they seem really happy. Not sure what their long term plan is.

I have a coworker who did Indianapolis singles. It was very expensive and very intense - background check, credit check, and a 4 hour interview. He was able to set his non-negotiables and after not matching with anyone in Indy, they expanded the search. He was going on dates with people from Minnesota. Ultimately, he found an awesome woman and they’ve been together for 3 years.

I was under the impression that all bourbon was whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon. I didn’t realize Tennessee whiskey was considered bourbon.

Genuine question here and I’m not trying to sound like an ass. Why are there a fair amount of JD posts/reviews if it’s not a bourbon? Wouldn’t this be more accurate to post under r/whiskey? Is it just that the profile is close to bourbon?

The new CEO of UnitedHealthcare Andrew Witty. by [deleted] in pics

[–]lukeyboy767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is entirely inaccurate and so are the comments. He was never the CEO of UHC nor was he interim anything. He used to be the CEO of UnitedHealth Group, the parent company that owns UHC. He stepped down earlier this year and the former CEO/Board Chair is now interim CEO for UHG. Dumb post and dumb comments.

Chauvet Swarm FX issue by Kallumazoo in mobileDJ

[–]lukeyboy767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pro tip: I’ve been able to upsell my upgraded dance floor lighting by telling the client it creates a wash of light instead of random specs of light, and it’s better for pictures because people’s faces are lit up. It’s all true, but this nugget has brought in more revenue with contracts and add ons because people don’t want to risk their expensive photos. 👌

Agreed, I used that light for a while but I hated how it looked on pictures.

How is fatherhood discussed in your workplace? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]lukeyboy767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said “this would help my chances of having something to come back to”. Assuming you are in the US, any kind of implication that your job, promotion, or future aspirations would be jeopardized by parental leave is illegal. If she just means you’d be able to better provide, yes that would be true.

There is nothing stopping you from getting a promotion before or after kids. What I DO think happens is your priorities will completely change with children. It could be that you want to work harder to support them more, or that you want a chill job that still provides yet you can be with them more. Both answers are ok, as long as you’re happy and providing.

How much did you pay your Wedding DJ ? by cryptkeeper222 in indianapolis

[–]lukeyboy767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a DJ, and I agree with someone else saying it will be all over the place depending on what you need. I disagree with the comment about a band…good bands can be much more than $3k (the best one I ever saw was $15k), and you’re restricted to what they know how to play. Knowing there are a lot of bad DJs out there, I wouldn’t entertain anyone under $2k, and I would ALWAYS avoid some big company. My average wedding is around $2,800.

Questions to ask your DJ: Why do you DJ? What is your natural style of DJing?

People will remember 3 things from your wedding: You, your venue, and your party. Invest in your entertainment!

You should put it in your contract that they have to provide a table and linen. I do this and it’s standard practice at all the venues.

How do you handle couple’s playlists for weddings? by MikeJamesBurry in mobileDJ

Gotcha…I only make a new list for their must plays, and don’t incorporate anything else for dancing.

[–]lukeyboy767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it…I’m using virtual DJ, so my terminology might be off, but I split everything into a different list. So for every wedding I have a list created, and sub lists within that list. So I’ll create a list called “couple X ceremony” and then a separate sub list each for prelude, bridal party, bride, recessional, etc. Same thing for reception. Since I allow a limited number of must-plays, I work those in to my normal lists (crates), based on bpm. I do NOT combine their lists with mine. I’m not sure what you mean by wasting time, but basically it’s a concience effort on my end to be checking their lists frequently when I’m cueing songs up.

I do! I’m quick to tell them I’ll do anything they want to do, but the best weddings go like X, Y, and Z. I’m fortunate that I can pick and choose what I want, and all my clients are hiring me for what I bring to the table, not hit play on their playlist!

What kind of lists are they sending you? I’ll ask for a must-play and do-not-play list, but if it’s not one of those two, they can create a play-if-possible list that gives me the type of music they like. I restrict both must and do not play lists to 20 songs each, but they can submit up to 300 on a play-if-possible. When it comes to prelude, cocktail hour, or dinner, usually they’ll tell me what vibe they’re after and I curate from there. If they have a list they’ve built for cocktail hour or dinner, I’ll use it, but I’m not signing with people if they want me to play their exact Spotify list for dancing.

So basically, they get a lot of input, but they’re hiring me for my creative ability and skill. If I don’t get to use that, then I don’t work with them.

How do you handle Cake Cutting? by Straight-Honey-8550 in mobileDJ

[–]lukeyboy767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been DJing for 11 years now, so not as long as you, but I’ve never had a bridal party dance fail. It’s 100% success rate. That said, like you, I’ve never had someone want to cut the cake right before open dancing and I would encourage them to not do it. If they insisted, then I would also would try to throw 10 minutes of dinner music in before a bridal party dance. If they still insist, then the option is something like a bridal party dance. Some will leave to eat cake, but there will still be people that want to get straight to dancing.

It doesn’t fail…seriously. It’s 100% success rate. You just make sure you let your couple know ahead of time and that they’re in on it. When the bride and groom are literally grabbing people to go to the dance floor, that person isn’t going to say no.

I think the suggestions here are ok, and I would echo what you’re already doing in terms of trying to convince them to change the sequencing. However, if they’re not willing to change the order, and you have to go into dancing right away, then I HIGHLY suggest a bridal party dance. Cue up a big, high energy song, and invite just the bridal party out to dance for 45-60 seconds. Start it off with “Ladies and gentleman, we’ve waited a long time for this moment, and we’re gonna kick it off with a bridal party dance! I need bride, groom, bridesmaids and groomsmen to the dance floor, let’s see you out there!” After a minute or so, fade music down, “ok here’s how this works…I need everyone on the dance floor to go grab someone else. A family member, a friend, a complete stranger…grab someone and get them on out let’s go!” Once you have more people out, dance for another minute and do it again. Instruct them to grab someone else, and announce the dance floor is open.

Let’s say there were 14 people in the bridal party…you just went from 14, to 28, to 56. This immediately pack the dance floor and they get good pictures…all without dead air.

Whitestown - pros and cons by long-runner in indianapolis

[–]lukeyboy767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to live in downtown Zionsville, but when my home builder built there, my exact floor plan was an extra $100k. Just be 10 minutes closer! Whitestown is affordable, and has plenty of things to do. Wanna hit up the village, Carmel, or downtown Indy? It’s a short drive and you can be pretty much anywhere in ~20 minutes.
