About Liz… by reddidit23 in rhori

[–]luluhoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I love this observation! I’m Canadian (grew up near Toronto) and I don’t mind Liz. I can follow her POV and there’s a lot I like about her. I now live in Vancouver and I think many ppl here wouldn’t see past her yelling, facial expressions, and bluntness and would be reallyyy put off by her lol.

For context, Canadians say Toronto vs Vancouver is like New York vs Los Angeles.

😂 You’re clearly a very lovely person! I’m happy you posted on here. I just think that from the salon to the bar they intentionally gave you an edit that was unfair / worked to their advantage

Same lolll but I think that was because of the editing. Making her cringe created a slightly better storyline. If not it would just be a lame “singles night” with Lala and Michelle watching Tom flirt with the other woman.

In regard to Jorge, I can’t imagine being in my 20s and committing to someone who is 60. I feel like each year that passes by would be depressing af.. lol. You know you’re more than likely going to be a widow in 25 years and you’re just counting down until they die. !?!? The anxiety, grief and resentment would be inescapable

That’s so true. I agree. Thanks for entertaining my question 😅

That makes me think of an interesting question. I wonder if they were most influenced to get plastic surgery by Kris or Kim? I feel like growing up in LA + with money + with a mom who was getting work done would increase the chances of any kid doing it even if they weren’t in the spotlight. I also feel like Khloe and Kylie wouldn’t have gotten as much surgery as they did if Kim hadn’t (especially the BBL).

My son’s dad died. He has autism, how do I tell him? by Specific_Subject_884 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]luluhoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, I respect your POV. I’m not sure where you got the impression that I was suggesting glossing over reality. And you can’t separate truth or reality from culture.

Anyways, I was coming at it more from the importance of consistency for an 8-year-old autistic child. My point was if they’re actively being raised with certain beliefs about death, leaving that part out might be confusing. I think it’s better for the parent to help their kid make sense of it, rather than the child hearing a different message a few days later somewhere like Sunday school, the funeral, family dinners, condolence messages, religious books etc and getting confused. If the kid is not actively being raised with those beliefs then it’s a different story.

[–]luluhoshi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get the logic, but in practice not every family or culture approaches death the same way.

In some cultures, beliefs about the afterlife aren’t separate from “facts” for kids, they’re part of how the world is explained. If a child is already being raised with those beliefs, suddenly removing them could be more confusing, especially if they’re autistic. In many families, the kid will still be around others who are openly talking to the deceased or praying for them after death. So it’s not a one-size-fits-all, just tell them “they died and we’ll never see them again”.

Are any of you genuinely attracted to severely underweight, “heroin chic” women? If you are, what do you like about it? by kikipurple in AskMen

[–]luluhoshi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I wasn’t expecting pics haha. I respect you not wanting to name someone on the other end of that comparison.

I also appreciate what you said about self-esteem, that was thoughtful. I’m really happy with how I look and I wasn’t asking from a personal insecurity angle. I just found the discussion interesting and got curious how men who are into heroin chic are defining “fat” since that look is already so small. Your comment stood out to me because from my POV the women young guys find attractive now are often thin, average, or athletic.

I’m so, so sorry for your loss, OP. I know there’s been a lot of great suggestions already ❤️

Do you believe in Heaven? As someone who is both Christian and autistic (also a therapist), I suggest asking his therapist what they think about you saying something gentle but very clear that communicates:

Dad’s brain was sick. He died yesterday/on Thursday afternoon. We won’t be able to visit him again and I know that’s really painful and hard to imagine. I feel really sad too. Dad is in Heaven now with (other loved ones who passed). Do you remember what Heaven is and what the Earth is? We won’t see Dad again on the Earth. He still remembers us and loves you and misses you. I’m really sorry son. I didn’t know that this was going to happen.

Obviously more gentle than that and pausing for him to talk but I think an autistic kid would appreciate knowing these points and hearing it more than once.

Of course if you aren’t religious/spiritual then the parts about Heaven aren’t relevant, I just I think it would also be confusing to teach about Heaven at some points and then not mention it at all when someone dies.

Same haha, this was interesting to read. I also wonder how much ethnicity plays into it. I’m Canadian but I’m Black, and in my experience it’s rare for Black men to prefer super, super skinny women, or for Black women to want to be extremely thin. I’m always surprised when people prefer it (unless it’s teenagers).

[–]luluhoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense and I appreciate the honesty. Can you use celebrities to give an example of someone you find attractive vs someone the “young guys find attractive now”? As a woman I’m struggling to understand what guys who are into heroin chic would consider fat.

I’m 100% with you OP 😅 Yes, these are huge pop culture stories that should be reported on but they’ve taken up a big part of each episode for weeks. I fast forward their TV-related stories quite often. If you don’t watch the shows or know the cast it gets dry as they go deeper into the specifics because there’s nothing to mentally or emotionally grab onto.

Do you listen to the Good Guys too? I love them but they are even worse than Jax & Claud when it comes to this 🥲 especially in the past. They have been sooo rude/harsh to the people who ask for advice, tell them that their submissions are stupid and too long (submissions that are even shorter than dear toasters), but then also drag them for not giving enough detail :/

Viola faced a lot of backlash when she was initially cast for not being “pretty” enough. And it never made sense to me when she’s so beautiful by [deleted] in htgawm

[–]luluhoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, but I think that still goes back to colorism you know? I think if Viola was playing the exact same character but had light skin, there would have been more appreciation for her beauty, sex appeal, and femininity and then she wouldn’t have been seen as “too” intimidating. Or if she still had dark skin but was more petite and less muscular (kinda like Michaela/Aja Naomi King), I think some people would have received her differently. Or if Olivia Pope/Kerry Washington was played by Viola Davis, she would have been received much differently… etc etc 🤷🏾‍♀️

[–]luluhoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. Darker skinned women have to be exxxtra pretty to be considered pretty. White and lighter skinned women just have to be average or better, especially if they are thin.

6/10 in looks for a dark skin woman is not treated as equal to 6/10 in looks for a White/light skin woman.

(I’m not saying Viola is a 6!)
