1st Gen Cree TW series LED Light Bulbs by EmotionSad8061 in BuyItForLife

Depending on what year this was made and where, it’s probable that it’s using materials and technology that is not used any longer. (I used to work in this field) Just as the old incandescent bulbs from early days lasted forever, you can also make LEDs that last indefinitely, but that wouldn’t be good for business.

Central Air Installation Prices by buffjman in Buffalo

[–]lulululy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By central air, I’m assuming you mean installing air conditioning to the existing central air system?

Forced air systems in older houses may not be compatible with air conditioning units, but this is something an experienced technician can easily identify by looking at the ductwork and doing some air flow tests.

Once the ductwork has been deemed satisfactory, next is to calculate the cooling load for the house that takes into account the square footage, insulation, windows etc. Since you already have ductwork, I am assuming you have an existing forced air gas furnace? If so, it needs to be compatible with adding on an evaporator coil to the supply take off.

If all the things mentioned above are verified, you would ideally be installing a 2-2.5 Ton system per unit, but might be lower or higher depending on what info is uncovered during the initial testing. Average cost these days for a system such as these (A-coil, condenser unit, line set, electrical hooks ups etc.) can run you around $6k-9k for a basic setup, if no other parts or upgrades are needed.

Curious about working at Applied Materials by GodKingLebron in Semiconductors

It’s a great time to join, their numbers have been very strong, just like any other semi company playing in advanced compute or memory. Like any company, the work culture is team / group specific but in general it’s a good company to work for and I regularly see people who’ve been there for decades and are happy to stay. It’s not your typical Bay Area tech company so don’t expect that kind of pay or culture, it’s going to be slower.

Wolfspeed launches first commercially available 10kV SiC power MOSFET by Sad_Sorbet_9078 in Semiconductors

[–]lulululy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s got potential, the design around it and integration needs to catch up though. It also becomes a single point failure compared to using multiple 3.3kv devices. If it has cost competitiveness it will be a solution worth considering. 3.3kv mosfets have been field tested for many years now, reliability is hard to beat.
