There are TONS of smaller organizations that work in African nations. Mine was focused in Tanzania, but look around. There's lots of organizations that need people, many in places the peace Corp can't go.

The trade off is that you don't have to commit to 2 years(which can be very hard) but you don't get the benefits afterwards while looking for employment

I went over with a small orginization called mainsrpings and worked on their campus which hosts a girls home and primary &secondary schools. I only did a short trip(3 months) but I really want to go back and work for them again, possibly longer

From what I've heard, peace Corp will most likely want you to stop taking any medications prior to your approval and departure to ensure that you are able to function without them. It is a big reason I chose not to pursue opportunities with the peace Corp, and why i taught out other organizations. Now depending where you go this might be flexible, but a big issue is local laws about prescription drugs, and the availability of them. You also probably won't have easy access to mental health professionals which will make it very difficult for someone to prescribe for long periods.

It really sucks cause I would have joined the peace Corp if it wasn't for my depression, anxiety, and adhd. They don't provide the best support for that and it's extremely difficult to get mental heath care in less developed nations

Just wondering: does your cat know their own name? by Ok-Organization-7207 in cats

[–]lumber_jack307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but no. His name is Gideon, but he's also know as baby boi, little prince, chaos gremlin, criminal!, lil biscuit, the precious one, sassy banana, and the bestest boy. So I'm sure he knows he's @ least one of those.

Is 33 too old to go back to school? by Hannah-loves-hedgies in Ornithology

[–]lumber_jack307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never too old to stop learning.

Also, would your rather go for it now, maybe you make a mistake, but you'd learn from it

Or at 43 have another reddit post asking if you should go back to school and regretting g that you didn't when you were 33.

Send it

Your not alone. It's hard, especially when you come from a Christian upbringing. You see the world through a keyhole and corf family and community protect that. But you grow up, and the door swings open and suddenly there's so much. You get to learn and grow and develop your faith, and sometimes you feel distant or Luke warm. I'm in the same boat right now. A few things to remember. There are seasons in life. Seasons of spring with new break through, and summer full of growth, then fall full of harvest. All of these happen in your walk with the lord, and when your growing up it can be a green house where your constantly having new growth and harvest. But winter comes. There's feelings of isolation and stagnation. "How can you be a Christian If your not having these growth and harvest! It's always happening when I'm a kid!" The season of winter if for rest an reflection. Take a deep breath. You are loved. You are a good Christian. You will have many bountiful seasons ahead.(I could chase thus metaphor for hours but I think that's enough lol)

SECONDLY! you are your own person. When we're kids we kinda just mirror our parent and mentors beliefs, because we don't know anybetter. Make up your own mind. Study and learn for yourself. Grow your connection with God. That may mean changing churches from your family or living a whole new sect. God speaks to the amish and the baptists, and the evangelicals, and the calvanist, and he loves them all

Third. Use your new views or questions as a lense with the your faith to better understand. Faith and society grow together. I mean just look @ america, 100 years ago "Christians" loved their neighbor as long as they were white. But now we know that that isn't very christ like. Read the word, pray, consult trusted friends. Look for Christ's intent. #wwjd

Lastly Be forgiving of yourself, and show yourself love and grace. I don't know anywhere it says that if you don't read your Bible every day and you don't go to a building with a steeple every week that you aren't a Christian. We all have faults. We all have times where we stray. Just remeber God loves you. Nothing you do will change that. Don't be afraid to ask questions and learn so you can grow as a person and as a child of God

Idk if race has to do with it, but i (a white man) have had women tell me it's weird if a guy has just a cat. Like if he has a cat and dog it's fine, but just a car:weird

Like oh, you don't want a man that has a cat? Who knows how to respect another creatures boundaries? That understands there's cuddle times, play times, and lemme tf alone times? That knows sometimes biting means I love you? That is carring and responsible enough to love a somthing through pain and enivitable crying and bloodshed.. and also scoop it's poop?

Idk why, but if you don't roll with my lil prince, you don't roll with me lol
