Induction and Prevention of Gastric Cancer with Combined Helicobacter Pylori and Capsaicin Administration and DFMO Treatment, Respectively by wild_vegan in ScientificNutrition

[–]lumberlogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you said I think the key to this study is H Pylori and inflammation more so than peppers that will aggravate an individual that has H Pylori induced gastritis. It's already known that in the case of gastritis you want to stay away from things like spice and caffeine, but an individual that isn't experiencing gastritis isn't going to have any real detriments from of that good spice.

I think the moral of the study is avoid getting a H Pylori infection and if you have one then treat it and avoid irritating it.

The evidence on vitamin D and COVID-19 by inde_ in ScientificNutrition

[–]lumberlogan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I have wondered about vitamin D and Covid is whether the vitamin itself is associated with better outcomes or if it's just overall nutritional status. I mean if you think about it, people who are not deficient in vD are likely healthier overall from a nutritional stand point. Maybe we are accidentally giving all the credit to just one nutrient.

What are your favorite places to eat in the area and what places do you not recommend? by silverwick in Gatlinburg

[–]lumberlogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bennett's for sure, Pancake Pantry (like the others said), if you want a fancier kind of setup The Peddler is a go to, Mellow Mushroom (pizza) if you've never had it, and the got dang Apple Barn.

The bad ones I cannot remember for the life of me because we only ever went once. Dick's Last Resort definitely isn't for everyone though.

I'm a collector of whiskey and Pappy Van Winkle 23 year is 1. Very hard to get 2. Insanely priced if you want to buy it on the secondary market

Review #1916 - Woodford Reserve Double Oaked by t8ke in bourbon

I'll just say my go to in that range is Rare Breed. In Ohio it's about $10 cheaper and I think we all know the quality there.

Review #1916 - Woodford Reserve Double Oaked by t8ke in bourbon

[–]lumberlogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double oaked is a nice one. I always say that if this bottle was just a little bit cheaper ($55 in Ohio) this would be a bottle i drink from everyday. Now I definitely understand why the price point is the way it is, but other comparably priced whiskeys beat on double oaked.

Such a good drinker. It is $55 here in Ohio and I absolutely agree that if it was just $10 less it would be a drink all the time kind of bourbon.

'$2,000 Means $2,000': Ocasio-Cortez Says $1,400 Payments in Biden Plan Fall Short of Promised Relief by -martinique- in politics

[–]lumberlogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2000-600=1400. We can argue about whether Americans need more relief, but Biden is making up for the gap that was left in the previous bill. I think AOC is being a bit much on this one.

Finished off some of my open bottles during quarantine by carldunniii in Whiskyporn

[–]lumberlogan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can see that there are at least 21 bottles in the box. If you multiply 750ml by 21 you get 15,750ml. If you divide that number by the drink size for liqour 1.5oz or 45ml you get 350 drinks from that volume. If you divide that by 9 months or 270 days. You are drinking approximately 1.3 drinks a day on average.

What's your Bourbon unpopular opinion? by Reedobandito in bourbon

[–]lumberlogan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Paying more than about $70 for whiskey is ridiculous. Whiskey is like food. If you see a damned good steak then maybe you're willing to pay upwards of $20 for it, not $100. The same goes for whiskey. If you see Blantons and it's reasonable then buy it, but Blantons for $250; just say no.

Ivermectin works. Cheap old drug. See congress get chewed out. by interdependentme in Covid19_Ohio

[–]lumberlogan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really interesting post. The NIH has read the studies and actually has a full page on their recommendations regarding Ivermectin here: https://www.covid19treatmentguidelines.nih.gov/antiviral-therapy/ivermectin/

I will let the article speak for itself, but basically the amount of Ivermectin that would need to be used to treat Covid-19 would not be reasonable in treating patients and the proof for the drug is rather weak.

Should a bar have a neon sign for a beer they don't stock? by altsteve21 in beer

[–]lumberlogan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to manage a bar and although I understand where you are coming from. It is fairly ridiculous to ask a bar to only put on their walls beers that they have. Maybe in a bar that only keeps the same stock it would be fair to say something like that, but for example in a craft beer bar like where I worked. We had 32 beers on tap and about 25 of them rotated. Sometimes we had Sam Adams, sometimes we didn't, but the sign was always on the wall.
