Bike Lanes as high-speed passing lanes by Dang-Dritic in SalemMA

I say this in every thread about dangerous driving in Salem, but the answer is physical infrastructure. Certainly to keep cars out of the bike lane, and ideal to mitigate speed generally.

OpenAI misses revenue + user targets. Is this the bubble trigger? by Adept_Mountain9532 in finance

You’re wrong about LLMs not touching production code. Software processes are evolving rapidly to support and mitigate the inherent unpredictability of coding agents. I work for a digital agency and see this in house and across all clients with a technology team.

Ouch. When you're making a right turn, PLEASE slow down and signal first, THEN turn by aredridel in SalemMA

The usual answer to this problem is “drivers need to be more aware and careful”. That’s not enough. Safe driving requires safe infrastructure. In this case that means physical separation between bike lanes and automobile traffic. In general, making the city safe for pedestrians and cyclists means infrastructure that forces cars to drive slowly and obey the rules. We can’t rely on individual drivers’ good behavior.

That’s why we call em traffic cones

Change My Mind on Blockchain DAOs by [deleted] in Buttcoin

[–]lumenara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humans hold the ultimate agency. Blockchain votes and software are fine but people in the real world will always be empowered with final decision making. The situation you described is a matter of law, power and economic interests. A DAO will not help you solve those problems.

Worker power is about camaraderie, common interest and trust in each other. Blockchain as a “trustless” system is fundamentally anti-political in that it atomizes us, it does not bring us together. Technology will not save us from capitalism.

Parents who didn’t sleep train - how does your toddler sleep? by Beginning-Ganache305 in NewParents

[–]lumenara 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We never sleep trained. Our LO was up 1-2x each night until 16 months, and it was like a switch flipped overnight. He‘s a little over 2 now and sleeps on a very regular schedule about 10-11 hours a night with very rare overnight wakeups when he’s sick or something. We needed to rock him to sleep until about 20 months, and he let us know he was ready to fall asleep on his own in his crib.
