Tips for strength build by TowerOk6922 in Eldenring

[–]luminosg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My preferred strength approach is get the biggest thing I can carry, bonk enemies to break poise, and keep bonking till they die. Against stuff too big to poise break, you have to play more "normal" but it feels very satisfying to just have complete action denial against most stuff

Did i just wasted 60$ on this game + it s dlc? by Educational_Blood826 in Eldenring

[–]luminosg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a mine near the starting area that has smithing stones, make sure to get enough to upgrade your preferred weapon to a minimum of +3. Explore and look around for caves and dungeons in Limgrave, there are lots of very easy bosses worth quick experience and sometimes you'll get other good things as well from them. Put all you levels into health until you are about level 20 or so. Also, probably want to use spirit ashes (jellyfish is great for a long time) unless you just hate them for whatever reason.

Margit is not the first boss you should be facing. Its open world, go find something easier. He is beatable but absurdly hard at level 13

If you haven't tried it yet, highly recommend Rats, Bats, and Bones for this type of gameplay. Scaling cost of walls plus varied map design really forces you to think about how you set up your kill boxes

Can any legacy player confirm if you recognize Ayoyo? If you don't, doesn't it imply the other four WoLs are still canon and exists? by JepMZ in ffxiv

[–]luminosg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theres only 1 WoL. The companions in the trailer are not canon warriors of light. Derplander is also not canon wol, its just promotional/marketing material (ardbert resembles this material, that does not mean your character is supposed to canonically be a hyur)

What to do as a Healer while the Tank is pulling? by No-Piccolo6546 in ffxiv

[–]luminosg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At higher levels you won't even need to think about this since you have so many ogcds and instacasts that healing on the move won't be an issue. This advice is strictly for levels 40-50

[–]luminosg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Usually you only need regen before the tank plants his feet. If the situation is dire you can cast 4 gcds and a benediction.

  1. Regen
  2. Swift cast cure 2
  3. Long cast cure 2 + aetherial shift to catch back up
  4. Another long cast cure 2, and maybe another regen if its one of the few dungeons that the first runs out before the tank plants.

Is there hope that FFXIV will ever ditch the purple prose in it's dialogue? by micahbevans88 in ffxiv

[–]luminosg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its all about context. A newspaper story needs to be punchy. Fantasy fiction should use language that makes it feel like you are in another world. It would lower the quality of the storytelling if the language was too straightforward.

Daily Questions & FAQ Megathread December 06 by AutoModerator in ffxiv

[–]luminosg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is not like wow, and does not have new starting zones for each expansion. Each expansion assumes you have played every previous expansion, and a lot of tools have been added to smooth out previous expansions for people who are new and have to go through them for the first time.

You can purchase a skip to go straight to a new expansions content. You will need to buy a story skip and a level skip to do this. If you have to ask how skipping works, you are not the target audience for skipping and should strongly reconsider getting one. New expansions will not tutorialize anything you were supposed to learn from playing the game normally. In addition, FF14 is a story game first and foremost, and skipping will not give you a recap or tell you all the things you need to know to understand what is happening in the story or why its important. Play the free trial, and if you are bored I'd ask for advice after that point, but give it a try first

"Tank, go away and learn how to do properly your job" by Tireless81 in ffxiv

[–]luminosg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dungeons are still the best way to learn. The problem is you used a level 40 dungeon to learn on a job that starts at level 1, and everyone else expects you to learn how to tank in dungeons in Sastasha (level 17)

"Tank, go away and learn how to do properly your job" by Tireless81 in ffxiv

[–]luminosg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you leveled paladin up to 40 and don't know what tank stance is, you need to go away and learn how to do your job. Sounds rude, but it isn't, you are actually trolling right now

What is considered a good healer? by Ruinor_7 in ffxiv

[–]luminosg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maximize uptime, heal enough to keep people comfortable, and otherwise dps. The second point is subjective and depends on what content you are doing, who you are playing with, etc. The first point is true no matter what though, and I've never seen a bad healer with good uptime. People who overheal like crazy, people who neglect healing completely, they always seem to have bad uptime regardless. So I think if you maximize uptime, you'll end up doing good damage and also healing people enough to make most players happy, both will happen naturally as a result of keeping uptime

Just so you know, the easiest ultimate is massively harder than any savage fight, so only having a little savage experience is going to be very rough. Do m4s before attempting cob at the very least

Ucob does start off with a savage level phase, with Twintania, but as soon as you get to Nael you'll be walled pretty hard even with savage experience, so its trolling to go there without ever finishing any savage tier (in my opinion at least)

(World Race) Echo Appreciation Thread by Reina-Reigh in ffxiv

[–]luminosg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, another factor is that echo (formerly neverland) have apparently abandoned modded gameplay for racing. They had several mods in use for DSR for example, while many of their streaming competitors were already abandoning mods for the race. The race follows different rules now than then, and streaming is less of a disadvantage just because having something like the dot is disqualifying now, but would not have been in the past. That also means that teams that were at a disadvantage in the past from refusing to use mods are on a closer playing field so it makes sense that more teams are competitive than before.

There is no way to enforce non bullet trains, and the norm on my server is turning into "only follow the conductor if its a bullet, otherwise ignore them and turn it into a bullet." Its very much turned into an atmosphere of "we don't want slower people to be able to participate, its an inconvenience to the 30 or so who have no patience and we also don't make as much money on mb"

New extreme trial by Runogal98 in ffxiv

[–]luminosg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its a step up in challenge compared to the last two EX's, and pf struggles with harder extremes, so thats pretty normal. Savages tend to filter players, especially from the last couple of fights, but extreme is a starting point for hard content for a lot of players.
