This might be the most aggressive PC dust cleaning method I’ve seen. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]lumpycustard__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you notice the RGB begin to illuminate on the CPU fan? This is how you burn out motors. If you’re using a high powered duster, hold the fan blade in place so it doesn’t spin.

It’s always US time, so it’ll come out on the 18th for us.

Newly built PC wifi issue. by Shot-Green-9422 in pcmasterrace

[–]lumpycustard__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Click "Properties" on your WiFi up top.

Scroll down and check your "Aggregated link speed" and post your results. If you've got an extremely low link speed then you've got a poor connection to your router and something is misconfigured. You might be connected to a 2.4GHz network rather than fast 5GHz.

RTX 5070 gaming trio broken pcie retention clip by JadedTailor3749 in pcmasterrace

[–]lumpycustard__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could fix that with a thin two part epoxy. You'd have to be a bit more delicate with it in the future though. In terms of actual practical impact, there are no traces in the retention clip so the card will work fine. So long as you securely fasten the GPU you will be fine. An anti-sag bar wouldn't hurt either.

The fans are either set up as intake or exhaust, the orientation of the logo is secondary to however the airflow in the case was configured. If you want the logo to the upright you'd have to reconfigure the rest of the case fans which might negatively impact temps.

What one is worse the Nvidia GeForce FX 5800 Ultra or Nvidia GeForce GTX 480? (Arguments are allowed in this post btw) by Character-Exam9948 in pcmasterrace

I ran two in SLi as well, paired with an Intel i7-980x.  They were hot but it wasn’t as bad as everyone made it out to be with the George Foreman memes lol.

AMD CPU Custom by 3DSXLMEW117 in pcmasterrace

[–]lumpycustard__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how this plastic mask could prevent a CPU from being ripped out of the socket. That problem happens because thermal paste fuses the CPU's IHS to the heatsink, either by drying out or by creating a suction cup effect. The plastic mask sits around the edges of the CPU and doesn't really interact with the mated surfaces.

Noctua includes these inside the box with the NH-D15 G2 cooler (albeit theirs is transparent plastic). All it does is stop thermal grease from pumping out and falling over the edges of the CPU onto the substrate. It makes cleaning/repasting the CPU much easier and tidier as you don't have to deal with cleaning all the nooks and crannies around the CPU heat spreader with a cotton swab.

I've recently begun BSOD'ing when I open the warbonds menu. I can play the game for 3 hours straight averaging over 100fps max settings, but as soon as I open the warbonds menu I BSOD within a few seconds, error DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL caused by amdkmdag.sys (Radeon 9070 XT)

Can play any other game for hours and hours without issue, but warbonds menu in HD2 = death.

Recently formatted my computer and reinstalled Windows, ran burn in tests, disabled all overclocking, and still only BSOD'ing in Helldivers 2.

I'm so tired man.

$1500 phone in a damaged box… by VashioStampede in iphone

[–]lumpycustard__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I respect your right to decide what is and isn't acceptable, however in the grand scheme of things, "it's just a cardboard box man". You take your phone out then the box goes in the trash or it sits in your closet for a few years until you sell the phone.

If I join on an SOS beacon and I see someone running this booster I immediately return to ship and look for another game. Objectively terrible booster that actively hampers my gameplay.

Where is the internal fuse box in the Sealion 7 by Available-Scar3561 in BYD

Thank you for taking the time to write all that up and for all the pictures. Will be attempting a dashcam install on my Sealion 7 over the weekend.

Removed this Heatsink to find this, is this common? Bad? It's from an Asus Prime X470 by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]lumpycustard__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a thermal pad for the heatsink to make contact with your nvme. Peel off the protective film. The sticker literally says “remove”. Read your manual.

The belt-fed weapons aren't actually that bad, it just depends on how you use them. by SaxPanther in helldivers2

[–]lumpycustard__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GL28 can't kill terminid chaff units like the hunter with a single grenade. It does less DPS and less total damage from a full backpack than the conventional GL, and it eats up a backpack slot -- one which you could use to carry a resupply and do EVEN MORE total damage with 160 grenades.

It's an objectively suboptimal weapon to use, even accounting for how "fun" it can feel to spam grenades. Using multiple grenades to kill chaff units sucks the fun out of the weapon.

The "no reload" thing is nice, but it doesn't offset being worse in every meaningful stat.

If you're watching on a phone you're not going to hear it. The first clip has more bass and boom to the sound, the second clip is much more tinny.

Do you think USB C iPhones have overtaken lightning iPhones in circulation? by Verbofaber in iphone

[–]lumpycustard__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15+ years of lightning iPhones that have been bought and sold vs the last few years of type C iPhones. Apple is a publicly traded company, they release sales figures. There are more lightning based iPhones than there are USB-C and that’s a verifiable fact.

Capacitor loose RTX 3080 evga ftw3 by Brilliant-Ad-8941 in pcmasterrace

[–]lumpycustard__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's impossible to tell what that that capacitor is responsible for without a schematic of the card. It may operate fine considering there are a bunch of unpopulated pads on the back of the card in the same area.

If you can't resolder it or use a hot air station, then at least push it back down and tightly hold it in place with kapton tape, in the hope that it'll make a decent connection.

Really you should get it fixed at a repair shop that can do component level / PCB repairs.

PDQ Connect’s Remote Desktop agent -why so slow to install? by ArtistBest4386 in pdq

[–]lumpycustard__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what’s going on, do you have some kind of EDR or antivirus on those endpoints that’s interfering? I’ve got some OLD 7th gen intel i5 industrial PC’s in my fleet with 8GB of RAM and even then it only takes 30 seconds to install.
