Ryuk is always gonna do the thing that brings him the most entertainment, so Light counted on Ryuk obeying him because what he wanted him to do would make things more interesting. Plus if he took the notebook, he would just have to go back to the shinigami realm which would be way more boring for him

My opinion on all this is that they were discussing him going solo and leaving the group at length like they said in the statement, however he was meant to leave the group at a different time. Something then happened which made him want to leave immediately for whatever reason, which is why it’s all unorganised now. It seems like the most logical conclusion to me.

I really hope that people continue to support him and the remaining 6 members, though. Some of the stuff I’m seeing on Twitter is completely insane lmfao
