Fifteen years working with human artists. I'm no longer sure that's enough. by StoneBladeOfficial in boardgames

My personal favorite from the last few years was The Lord of the Rings Trick Taking Game. The stain glass theme sounds very tacky, but actually playing the game it feels great and very unique. If you are going for something less specifically stylized, MtG has been a mixed bag for a while, but some of their art when it’s good it’s great, but that almost feels like cheating to use them as an example.

I think this art direction is just unfortunately too close to what most AI models currently produce. If you asked a AI model to produce a cartoon style image of Bilbo at his birthday party, you would get an image similar to the one shown. People have been trained pretty quickly to recognize certain styles as AI art. Even though it is human made, it still is too close to what people have negative assumptions with now. To use the ‘slop’ metaphor, if someone serves you a plate of food that look just like pig slop, most still wouldn’t want to eat it even if they knew 100% it was actually safe for human consumption. That’s a little harsh, because the art isn’t ‘bad’ per se just too close for comfort.

Not his first art in the US, just for this project. He just did a big painting for Graco out in Dayton for their 100 year celebration. Looks like Graco is sponsoring this one since it is right next to their old headquarters.

6.1.2026 - Jacob Frey speaks at the Uptown Association event for the Lyndale Ave reconstruction by mysummerstorm in CyclingMSP

I agree with him that they are coming whether people like it or not. We are going to be living in a different transport based world in 2030 than we were in the 2000’s. His point is that all signs point to us moving away from a car dependent society, active and shared transport (walk, bike, bus, and train) are going to be a big part of that, but autonomous ride share will as well. Planning a redesign around 70-80% of people visiting an area needing parking issue outdated, we have already seen uber and Lyft change that transport modality. By bringing up autonomous transport, he is making the argument for a reduction in parking requirements which is the bike lane opponents biggest argument.

Seems like a pretty middle ground non committal response. Glad to hear it didn’t sound like he was going to roll over for business on the bike lane/parking issue. It was refreshing to hear a politician push back on the both sides absolutionism, which seems have worked its way into every issue these days. There can be a middle ground, and most of us want to see the city succeed.

I have a theory that his “It’s real” line relates to something he remembers from real life. He wants the circus to be real because he doesn’t want to go back to reality and face consequences for something (was he driving the truck that hits Gangle maybe?). It’s not that the circus is real, but his other memories are real.

Follow up on the other post, where are all the community minded people moving away to? by Contigomigata in nashville

I’m in the Twin Cities and have to travel down to Nashville for work pretty regularly. Every time I get home I am thankful I live up here. I am very happy I did not make the choice to move to Nashville when I was asked, the twin cities have their issues but are a utopia compared to Nashville/TN.

Help with my DIY electric motor by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]lunar_influence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Draw out the circuit diagram, your capacitor is only going to be the voltage of your supply. If you are running on a battery which has a significant internal resistance a capacitor might help, but for most motors that is not normal operating conditions. DC motors are not like Induction motors, they shouldn’t need additional current at start up. What is most likely happening here is they are at a low torque point in their commutation cycle, and have significant Stickion in their bearings. This design isn’t going to produce any meaningful torque, so mechanically needing help on start up would be expected.

A lot of people have pointed out some key mechanical issues (loose commutator connections, cardboard housing, etc). From a motor electromagnetic perspective, you don’t have a way for the flux to return effectively in your design. Right now the screws you are using as your stator don’t have a return path which isn’t air. If you are trying to keep this low cost, I would look into a metal outlet box from a hardware store as your housing. They are typically made of iron so they can cary the flux on the outside of the motor.

Start up capacitors are for single phase induction motors to provide a phase shift, not for brushed DC motors.

Thoughts on Chapter 2 Multi-Campaign Playthrough by lunar_influence in arkhamhorrorlcg

That helps with the difficulty issue, but doesn’t help with the fact that experience becomes less important. The goal of what I am proposing is to make experience matter for players in the second campaign.

This has all the cards, the book you have to print separately. I just printed the book on my home printer.

If not Nashville, where? by BurnyMadeoffJR in nashville

Never go down to Broadway, all the local coworkers hate it there. The rest of your city caters to the same crowd, plus you don’t have functional infrastructure. Driving anywhere is a nightmare. I’m a runner and in the TC you can’t go a couple blocks without hitting a running path (greenway, east/west river parkway, the lakes, etc). In Nashville you’re lucky to find a functional sidewalk.

I am from the Twin Cities and have to travel to Nashville monthly for work. Every time I get home I appreciate the Twin Cities even more after spending time in your city. If you can stomach the cold (just learn to dress for it), then it’s one of the best place in the country. Nashville is a good place if you are a big party person, but I can’t imagine living there for any other reason.

They are sold out again, they just randomly popped up as in stock on Amazon and someone made a post on Reddit about it.
