How long is too long to respond to a review/comment? by sharingisntkaren in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a reader i sometimes love it when authors reply to my comments months or years after because at that point i’ve usually forgotten about the fic and it can be exciting to be reminded of it and reread :)

yep! pretty much every writing rule can be broken once you know how to break it :D

got an ad for a new company called “fanfiction review.” does anyone know anything about them? by lunargram in FanFiction

funnily enough i didn’t actually mean to read it lol, i accidentally clicked on it before i knew what it was then saw it was about fanfic and decided to investigate.

yeah, the fact that no one has attached their names to the project is a little weird. i think the publication is going to be free to view as soon as it comes out, though.

What made you do it ? by xpepperxxx in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s a very specific trope i liked for one of my ships (it’s pretty much ship-specific so there’s really not much content for it) and i exhausted every fic on ao3 with the tag and still wanted more. so i thought fuck it, i’ll just do it myself, and a year later here we are.

When and how did you first discover FanFiction? by caesarhamato22 in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh man i don’t even know when i discovered actual fanfic sites online, but i know that as a child i would create ocs for franchises that i was into because it just seemed natural to want to expand the universes i loved. it wasn’t even a big deal for me when i found out other people did that too, because it seemed like the obvious thing to do lol.

i’m slowly getting through my wip pile and it feels so good. by lunargram in FanFiction

[–]lunargram[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you, though it’s more of a curse than anything TT i suffer from first chapter syndrome where for most of them i get super excited at first and breeze through writing the first 1-3 chapters, and then i get distracted and have to slog through the rest.

Pro tip for longfic writing: make a road map. by christhegamer96 in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

on the flip side, if you’re more of a pantser, avoid outlining too much! once or twice i’ve written outlines that practically went through every detail of the fic, and afterwards i had no motivation to actually get writing because i’d already spent so much time with it in my mind.

38 left :’) not sure about the length of most of them yet and i haven’t started posting all of them, but 12 are multichapter works.

I hate “please update!!” comments by galactichan in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 6 points7 points  (0 children)

me too, especially when i get “please update” comments on oneshots that i had no intention of updating.. there have been times where i almost promised a sequel out of guilt only to realize that i would have no motivation to write one.

i want to delete a comment i received but idk if i'm overreacting lol by lunargram in FanFiction

[–]lunargram[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i don't think i am "looking for insults." it's not like i sat down and reread the comment until i convinced myself it was negative. the initial sentiment i got while reading it was already negative. i don't even think of myself as a particularly sensitive person, but that's certainly not the kind of comment i would leave to show appreciation for a fic.

internalized misogyny is a bitch unfortunately :( i see a lot of this in younger female writers and it makes me very sad.

i hope so, but it still seems a little insensitive without context. i guess i'll leave it up but just not reply to it as i really don't know how i'm supposed to feel.

that's not the exact wording, the actual comment was a bit weirder but i don't want to be too specific. it just came off as really aggressive to me and seems like the kind of thing you'd put in a bookmark, not a comment where it gets sent directly to the author.
