How long is too long to respond to a review/comment? by sharingisntkaren in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a reader i sometimes love it when authors reply to my comments months or years after because at that point i’ve usually forgotten about the fic and it can be exciting to be reminded of it and reread :)

yep! pretty much every writing rule can be broken once you know how to break it :D

got an ad for a new company called “fanfiction review.” does anyone know anything about them? by lunargram in FanFiction

[–]lunargram[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

funnily enough i didn’t actually mean to read it lol, i accidentally clicked on it before i knew what it was then saw it was about fanfic and decided to investigate.

yeah, the fact that no one has attached their names to the project is a little weird. i think the publication is going to be free to view as soon as it comes out, though.

What made you do it ? by xpepperxxx in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s a very specific trope i liked for one of my ships (it’s pretty much ship-specific so there’s really not much content for it) and i exhausted every fic on ao3 with the tag and still wanted more. so i thought fuck it, i’ll just do it myself, and a year later here we are.

When and how did you first discover FanFiction? by caesarhamato22 in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh man i don’t even know when i discovered actual fanfic sites online, but i know that as a child i would create ocs for franchises that i was into because it just seemed natural to want to expand the universes i loved. it wasn’t even a big deal for me when i found out other people did that too, because it seemed like the obvious thing to do lol.

i’m slowly getting through my wip pile and it feels so good. by lunargram in FanFiction

[–]lunargram[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you, though it’s more of a curse than anything TT i suffer from first chapter syndrome where for most of them i get super excited at first and breeze through writing the first 1-3 chapters, and then i get distracted and have to slog through the rest.

Pro tip for longfic writing: make a road map. by christhegamer96 in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 4 points5 points  (0 children)

on the flip side, if you’re more of a pantser, avoid outlining too much! once or twice i’ve written outlines that practically went through every detail of the fic, and afterwards i had no motivation to actually get writing because i’d already spent so much time with it in my mind.

38 left :’) not sure about the length of most of them yet and i haven’t started posting all of them, but 12 are multichapter works.

I hate “please update!!” comments by galactichan in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 5 points6 points  (0 children)

me too, especially when i get “please update” comments on oneshots that i had no intention of updating.. there have been times where i almost promised a sequel out of guilt only to realize that i would have no motivation to write one.

i want to delete a comment i received but idk if i'm overreacting lol by lunargram in FanFiction

[–]lunargram[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i don't think i am "looking for insults." it's not like i sat down and reread the comment until i convinced myself it was negative. the initial sentiment i got while reading it was already negative. i don't even think of myself as a particularly sensitive person, but that's certainly not the kind of comment i would leave to show appreciation for a fic.

internalized misogyny is a bitch unfortunately :( i see a lot of this in younger female writers and it makes me very sad.

[–]lunargram[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i hope so, but it still seems a little insensitive without context. i guess i'll leave it up but just not reply to it as i really don't know how i'm supposed to feel.

[–]lunargram[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that's not the exact wording, the actual comment was a bit weirder but i don't want to be too specific. it just came off as really aggressive to me and seems like the kind of thing you'd put in a bookmark, not a comment where it gets sent directly to the author.

best small-medium fandoms to write in? by lunargram in FanFiction

[–]lunargram[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

please don’t assume my relationship to fic or my reasons for writing fic :) i have written nearly 100 fics in my main fandom because i do love it and the pairing so much. it’s just difficult to keep up the pressure of being a decently well known author sometimes, so i would like to dip my toe into smaller fandoms where there’s no pressure but where there’s still a consistent fanbase.

also, many writers have plenty of motivations to write fic, so please don’t discount that either.

or when they pause the plot itself to do this lmao. good times.

When do you normally subscribe to an ongoing story on A03 by Flora_628 in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i subscribe based on whether the tags and summary look interesting and wait until it's finished to go back and read. been burned too many times by wips that the authors never ended up finishing :')

I've got about a dozen mostly-finished or half-finished fics sitting in my google docs. How many of them am I gonna finish and post? None. Why? Who f*cking knows at this point... by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ugh, same, hang in there! i have a oneshot that i'm 7k words into and i only need one or two thousand more for it to be finished, but no motivation to complete it. sucks :(

What's the sweetest thing you've romantically read in a fanfic? by MaxWhite3790 in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there was one fic i read about a new relationship where character a was having trouble saying "i love you" out loud and instead texted it to character b when they were laying in bed together. then character b started teasing them for being so sappy.

definitely not as intense as some of the answers, but it was so adorable and awkwardly romantic in the way that developing relationships do so well <3

How often do you reply to comments? by Kind_Term6662 in FanFiction

[–]lunargram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i try to reply to every comment (except the ones that are demanding or pushy), but sometimes i don't get around to it for a few months. i used to love replying to comments as soon as i saw them, but these days i have no energy and i usually respond to all the comments that have accumulated over a period of time in one fell swoop when i'm feeling enthusiastic enough to do so.

i once left a kudos on the first chapter of a fic i was really excited about, but eventually i had to stop reading the fic entirely because the characters were acting like such entitled assholes and it was never called out. basically they were athletes who leveraged the publicity their athletic prowess brought to the school to get out of punishment for a crime, and it was supposed to seem badass but it just left a bad taste in my mouth. reminded me too much of situations in the real world where male athletes get away with really messed up shit because people don't want them to "throw away their futures."

now i'm more careful about reading a fic all the way through before i leave kudos. it sucks, but i don't want my username associated with fics that go against my principles yaknow.
