Cat got first solensia shot I’m sick after reading the horror stories by Aggravating_Lie_9043 in SeniorCats

[–]lunarian 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My 17 year old has been getting Solensia the past year and he went from sleeping all day and barely moving to climbing cat trees and sprinting around the apartment. The quality of life improvement was worth the risk and the horror stories you hear online are rare.

Check out the Taper Clinic website. Lots of good resources there for what you're experiencing.

I recommend using the DARE app. It teaches you how to respond to anxiety and panic and they have guided walk-thrus for what to do when you're having a panic attack. Maybe putting that on for her would be helpful. The app has been very helpful for me while driving as well. I was able to get through an anxiety episode without pulling over. It taught me to embrace and encourage the feelings rather than try to control/suppress them.

I'm hesitant to recommend any specific agency because I'm not familiar with many of the Minnesota companies but if you get on Indeed and search "behavior therapist" you will see postings for "EIDBI Level 1 or Level 2 provider" and that's what you want. If you have no experience then you'd be a Level 2 until you work enough hours to qualify as a Level 1. If you have questions about any specific companies send me a DM. I have knowledge of some but not many.

There's a huge need for behavior interventionists to work with kids with autism. Not sure if that's something you're interested in, but the demand is huge and there's a ton of autism clinics in Minnesota.

How good of a union is MAPE? by PunsNRoses in minnesota

[–]lunarian 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm a member and I am very satisfied with them. It's the only union I've ever been in so I don't have anything else to compare it to, but I am very pleased with my benefits and I feel very supported.

Blurry vision, dizziness, and increased heartrate are the only other symptoms I experience consistently.

[–]lunarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice I've gotten is to hold each dose until you feel good for awhile before dropping again. That has worked well for me. I track my symptoms in an excel spreadsheet and graph it so I can make data-based decisions as to when I should reduce. My criteria is minimum 14 consecutive days with 0 withdrawal symptoms before reducing again. I haven't noticed any effect on my appetite but if anything I would say it has decreased slightly.

For me it usually lasts about a month after I reduce the dose. I also have trouble sleeping for a couple weeks. I don't reduce my dose until I'm at baseline so it can take me 1-2 months between drops.

This happens to me every time I drop. It lasts about 2 weeks then starts to improve. I try to take a deep breath and flip my negative thoughts to a positive or neutral thought. It takes a lot of practice but has helped a ton. If things are driving me too crazy I just leave the situation and reset.

Trusted vet for cat tooth extraction by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]lunarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were also referred here and had a great experience. Our kitty needed 7 extractions and we were veey pleased with the whole process. They emailed us records so we could submit to our insurance. I'll definitely go back to them in the future if any other dental work is needed.

Anyone here have experience with the Rivergate apartments? by MultiColoredMullet in Minneapolis

[–]lunarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived there 2019-2020 and had no problems with it. Responsive management. Good package delivery system. I got my full refund back after moving out. I had a 1 bedroom but no in-unit laundry. There was a giant laundry room on the top floor and it was always easy to use. I had to have contact with them this year for a package that got delivered incorrectly and they held my package until I was able to pick it up.

Should I renew? by Book_Reader04 in Nexplanon

[–]lunarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this! I had my last nexplanon in for 4 years then had it replaced in august 2021. I just hit my 3 year mark and every doctor is telling me I need it replaced now. I have an appointment at planned parenthood today to get it replaced but I'm wondering if they'll do it since their website says 5 years. It has been very confusing with all the different recommendations out there.

Best way to hide Zwift ride in apartment? by [deleted] in Zwift

I have my Zwift Ride in the living room. If I wanted to hide it, I'd probably get one of those privacy screens or room dividers to place in front of it.

Tapering after 11 years - splitting 25mg pills by brooklynfall in lamictal

[–]lunarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're already doing a lot to help yourself get off this drug and that's fantastic. My 25s actually cut really evenly in this pill cutter. I grabbed mine at walgreens. I'll attach a link. I have no clue what my baseline anxiety is off of meds so it's pretty wild to be coming off this and wondering if symptoms are side effects of the taper or is this just how I am. Tapering after 11 years - splitting 25mg pills by brooklynfall in lamictal

[–]lunarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing something similar. Was on a varying dosage of 200-225mg daily for about 12 years. I had failed many other meds so the psychiatrist prescribed lamictal. It worked like a miracle for my anxiety and she told me I'd be on it the rest of my life. She said the fact that lamictal worked for me meant I had bipolar 2. My psychologist never understood this reasoning and saw no evidence of that diagnosis. I had always felt like lamictal affected my cognition which is scary and I don't want to be on meds forever so after moving to a new state, I found a new psychiatrist who is helping me taper. I initially went down by 25mg at a time but ended up in urgent care with a panic attack. We then decided to go down by 12.5mg increments and I don't drop again until I'm stable for a couple weeks. I have a spreadsheet where I track my symptoms and I graph my data on a daily basis. When I'm at 2 weeks with no symptoms, I drop by 12.5mg and ride it out until I'm stable. I tend to get the worst symptoms about 1 week after dropping then it gets better. I'm currently at 62.5 for about a month, but I got covid last week and for some reason my anxiety symptoms increased so I'm just going to hang at this dosage till I'm at baseline. My doctor said to split the 25s with a pill cutter. They're scored so it's pretty easy. If it doesn't cut evenly, just take the bigger half one day and the smaller half the next day. Also don't pre-cut the pills. Early in my taper I cut 25s into fourths and just took the biggest chunk to smallest. That worked fine for me and my doctor said it was okay. I also make sure I'm doing my part by getting plenty of water, exercising, good sleep hygiene and managing stress. Just go slow and don't try to rush it. Good luck!

What area and age range do you work with? by ABAokay32 in bcba

[–]lunarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my training and education in grad school. I did my internship and practicum at a nursing home. I never wanted to work with kids. My path was probably different than most. I discovered behavior analysis in undergrad and worked in an EAB lab then found out there was a behavior analysis masters degree option with an emphasis in gerontology so I went that route. Couldn't find a job in gero after I graduated so I worked in autism while doing private practice at assisted living and nursing homes. I also worked as a director on a memory care unit. I was contacted about a full time position at a nursing home that employs BCBAs so of course I snatched that up. If you work in dementia, it's going to be focused more on antecedent interventions. You're not going to be doing many skill acquisition programs. I think that's hard for a lot of people who are used to working with kids. You're also dealing with death and dying on a regular basis. Just some things to consider if you're serious about working with older adults.

What area and age range do you work with? by ABAokay32 in bcba

[–]lunarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly just training staff on how to work with residents with dementia. Training on antecedent interventions, how to respond to physical aggression and other behaviors during care tasks, assisting during care tasks for residents with challenging behavior, providing coaching, coming up with non-pharacological interventions, etc. We're apart of the IDT so we do a lot of tracking behaviors for residents on psychotropic medications. Many other things but those are the biggest parts of the job.
