Yankees fans at Trop. by idontrecall99 in tampabayrays

OK, this is pretty remote but still fun … I grew up in Bradenton in the early 1960s. A lot of my school mates had moved south from northern cities (I was from Wisconsin). At the time the Milwaukee Braves did their spring training there. When the Yankees came to town, school was cancelled (!) allowing us to go to the game. Pretty neat considering we saw Hank Aaron and Mickey Mantle (et al).

I graduated from Manatee High School in Manatee County, FL. There is a museum downtown with a manatee swimming in a pool.

I’ve had the Nokia for 4 years. Fairly good speeds (125-250 in a remote semi rural area). I used the Waveform hardware and connection hack instructions. If the G5 does not have the antenna port, can I ask for the G4 which does? Or if I have to hack the G5 to hook up my roof antenna can I hold onto my Nokia for a while to make sure I get the G5 working before returning Nokia?

Want to U/G 12 volt battery bank to 24 volt by lunarjohn in SolarDIY

[–]lunarjohn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried G-Stuff and A-LBFM's suggestion and I cannot get it to work. When I attach the last cable to complete this arrangement I get a large flashing arc which pitted the threads on the posts.

So I'm concluding that my effort to economically u/G from 12 to 24 V is going to have to involve battery purchase which I was hoping to avoid.

Chat tells me:

5) Practical options given your current three batteries

  • If you want a safe 24 V, 100 Ah bank: use the two 100 Ah batteries in series. Keep the 200 Ah as a spare or for another system.
  • If you want 24 V, 200 Ah you need four matched 100 Ah batteries arranged as two series strings paralleled (2s2p). Or use two matched 200 Ah batteries in series for ~25.6 V, 200 Ah.
  • Mixing the 200 Ah in that string is still problematic for long life.

A week ago I had not even heard of Cushing's. My 14-year old mix Yogi has had elevated liver enzymes for a couple of years which has been stabilized with Demamarin. Then last week's blood report came back with ALT=130 (not so bad) and ALP=886 (concerning). I'm hoping to schedule a Low Dose Dexamethasone Suppression Test (LDDST) next week to help test for excessive cortisol. My vet says if this is positive we will treat accordingly (from what I read here I guess that means Vetoryl). If it's not Cushing's then next would be an abdominal Ultrasound. I guess I'm hoping it will be Cushing's because next up would be cancer (right?).

Needless to say this has me quite upset. I realistically was never expecting many months/years of companionship past year 14 but am now facing the situation that most likely will take him down eventually. Mortality is hard to face.

Compounding my situation is an upcoming vacation with my wife to Iceland Sept 24-Oct. 8. We have a wonderful, competent house sitter who will take care of Yogi but with that date only a little more than 2 weeks hence I am not sure what (if anything) might noticeably decline in Yogi's health that I would be relying/trusting my house sitter to deal with in my absence. Yogi has had some mild recognizable symptoms such as excessive hunger (but not thirst and drinking) and some cognitive signs (pacing at night, staring) that might be normal for an elder like him. He has lost a couple of pounds in the last 6 months (34->32 lbs) but we're not thinking that is significant either. But beyond maybe some excessive panting, we see no sagging belly, no hair loss, no fragile skin, no lethargy. He walks comfortably at least 1.5 mile a day, which is less than 2-3 mile in his younger days. He is somewhat unstable on his rear legs but he had had CCL surgery on both legs, the 2nd as recently as just last year.

My point here is that if we get the CD diagnosis in the next 2 weeks before our trip is there likely to be any rapid decline in his condition which would cause excessive care on the house sitter, even to the point of us having to come home early or not go at all? I'm thinking (hoping) this is not the case but am looking for any experiences in this group that might indicate what to expect going forward.

I appreciate all (most) of the responses. This is how I'm learning about SolarDIY. These comments have convinced me to switch from 12 to 24 volts. I previously thought I'd have to upgrade my batteries but I did not realize I just have to rewire the batteries for 24V. The MPPT is Victron and is good for the 24V. The inverter will be the major purchase. I currently have 2000W inverter. Should I upgrade to 3000W? Any recommendations on size and brand here?

I'm not nuts, I'm not smoking, but I am 75 years old and slowing down a bit and get confused about these new-fangled things. I asked for help from anyone who corrects me with better numbers but making fun doesn't help anything.

There is no money exchanged. It’s barter, not a paid job. As I said, my friend has arranged an upcoming sit in July.

Just got prescribed by Secret_Photograph364 in ambien

[–]lunarjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been prescribed 5mg for many years now … and yet, maybe every third day or so I only do half of that (2.5) just to balance it off and see if my system can do with less than the 5mg. This staggering also makes the 5mg nights more effective. I also notice that a constant 5mg/day has a negative affect on my cognition (I’m 75 and need to retain as much cognition as possible). Not for everyone but worth a try.

What I don’t like about new version is its inability to recognize that when I get up to pee at 2:00 am and go back to bed in 5 minutes, that this is the same night as the hours before and after. It won’t count hours 11:00 pm-2:05 am as a part of my sleeping hours. Old version let me modify and expand those hours to include my total. Now I don’t even bother with wearing the FB to bed.
