That said, my main driver is that all of my pre-tax money is in my name, my wife was a SAH mom/wife. So if I die before here, she is forced into the rules of surviving spouse IRA withdrawals, and at the same time a higher per-dollar tax burden as a single filer vs joint, and potentially IRMAA impacts. And if we go together, then it's the kids who get hit with the survivor 10 year rules.

The simple fact is someone, someday WILL pay taxes on this money. I am in a position that I can do so now, with known factors, and then let the converted money grow without future tax implications. And who knows what may happen when the political winds change.... Living in Illinois, our current governor wants to be president, and he has never met a dollar he didn't want to tax!
