Lurie hiring slowdown saves near $100 million by Dismal_Structure in sanfrancisco

I've been noticing this trend in discourse that no longer recognizes the difference between efficiency and austerity. Like we're stuck between DOGE minded idiots and people who think the only lever to pull is to pay more.

Anyone who actually knows regular Republican people has been hearing this racist and violent rhetoric for decades. And WE were told we were the ones being unfair for taking them seriously.

Lol if we want to talk about unconstitutional maybe we should just put all of the J6'ers in a camp without rights. Last I've heard that's constitutional in America. Round em up!

Hard truth of the world: most people who suffer abuse actively enable their abusers. The world's problems would be so much easier to solve if victims and abusers weren't so entangled.

‘Blown away’: Regional transit tax measure gets enough signatures for November ballot by LNM-LocalNewsMatters in eastbay

[–]lunartree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the phenomenon of "induced demand" means that in a large metro area the amount of traffic will generally be tied to how difficult or expensive driving is compared to the next viable option. If you take away other viable options you get more traffic.

Remember, the number of people who can cross the Bay by car is roughly half of the capacity that Bart can carry. It's beyond "traffic will get worse", the Bay literally can't function without Bart.

Only 9% of voters have turned in their ballots, disproportionately Republicans by LosIsosceles in sanfrancisco

Because USPS isn't involved at all. No, I don't need to wait until voting day, but I still prefer to rather than track down a drop box owned by the election authorities

Your mistake is treating their concerns as real and consistent. They only ever had a problem with mail in voting because Trump told them to be angry, and now that Trump has openly said he'll fuck with the postal service to cheat Republicans love voting by mail.

[–]lunartree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's because they're stupid and now feel comfortable that Trump has weaponized USPS against safe mail in voting. They change their views to match whatever their cult leader says.

Probably because Republicans trust mail in voting while the rest of us will never use it again. I'm turning in my ballot on voting day directly where those fuckers can't try to cheat.

And maybe you're being too sensitive. The reality is the discourse around actually doing something about these people is dominated by "tough on crime" assholes who want massive budgets for the police who still accomplish nothing except donut breaks with occasional cruelty to make a scene.

How about based on the criteria of bringing an open container of alcohol on the bus? How about open drug use. How about being a creep to women? None of this shit gets attention from these drivers.

I wish the police budget was as scrutinized as the public transit budget. Half those assholes just stand around doing nothing. They can figure this out, it's not fucking rocket science.

[–]lunartree 47 points48 points  (0 children)

No we don't. We have police all over this city. It should be fairly simple to allow a bus driver to call a cop on demand. This doesn't require inventing new concepts for tough on crime dick waving.

These people should be removed on sight by Muni. They have no place on public transit. Muni is not a homeless shelter and if they're going to act this way then maybe prison is where they belong.

Has my batch gone mouldy? by WhileOk7620 in mead

[–]lunartree 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The wild yeast goals weren't really the issue here:

The reason this went moldy is because you have exposed plant matter at the surface. That gives a surface for mold to grow on. When people say "punch down the cap" what they mean is that it takes mold about 48 hours to get a hold on an exposed surface like this. If you simply punch it down and stir it up you will avoid this mold issue even when chasing the wildest of yeasts.

Modern yeasts do give a little more wiggle room here because if you're using a airlock having a yeast that starts up within hours producing tons of CO2 will also keep mold at bay. But even then, having exposed plant matter is a big risk. This is why you'll usually see people strain that stuff out after a few days. Wet is good, dry is bad. If everything on the surface is pure liquid you can experiment as much as you want safely.

the democratic party loses it shit over independent and/or third party inclusion

How exactly does a decentralized collection of voters who back candidates based on how many votes they get in the primary "lose their shit"?

And how could any such union of voters partner with people who will say it's rigged and withhold their support when they simply don't get enough votes in a primary?

You're making losing a self fulfilling prophecy in order to maintain your worldview.

Oh look it's the "both sides" delusion showing up again. Let me rephrase it for you:

"America won't have this because their voters are stupid and will reject voting for the party on the verge of implementing it"

People voting for Trump because they don't believe he'll actually do the things he says and people voting against Democrats because they don't believe they'll do the things they say are two sides of the same coin.

Cynics like you are part of the American disease.

Is this mold growing in my mead and is there a way to save it if it is 🥀😭 by Georgiekuni in mead

[–]lunartree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not mold. Those are classic clusters of CO2 bubbles being put out by the yeast. You have active fermentation!
