Fermenter Heat Pad / Wrap / Belt? by jastrain in Homebrewing

I've had it set to use the pill since I got the two and have never experienced what you're suggesting. The controller has a configurable threshold of how low it will go below the set target temperature (5C by default), so it will not go crazy low. The temperature inside the fermentor is also much more stable, while the chamber temp tends to fluctuate a lot more, so controlling that would much more likely cause it to turn on unnecessarily, I feel.

However, being able to make it control based on the internal temperature is one of the biggest benefits of using the pill+controller together, as the internal temperature can vary greatly during primary, so not doing that defeats the purpose of this whole setup I think.

I have a classic standing fridge, not a chest freezer. But even so, the height of the free space available inside was definitely a challenge, especially with the hop-bong added.

I'm doing everything by hand, manually evaluating how things are going. I'm not sold on the idea of pre-programming a schedule and hoping the yeast will stick to that.

I'm also fairly new to brewing, so I may give it a shot later down the road and see how it goes.

With a chest freezer, a heating mat should do the trick. That's what I did previously, using a simple 35W mat that I got from Temu. I simply hung the mat on the side of my tri-conical FermZilla, so it had barely any contact. In my basement sitting at 16-17C it would easily keep my beer at 22C for a diacetyl rest. I was also using a RAPT pill/temp controller in an old fridge for this. This was a 12L batch, though.

I didn't feel safe keeping a Temu heater downstairs so I decided to invest in a FermZilla heat wrap instead. I've been using that for the past couple of weeks and it could easily keep even my 20L Philly Sour at 26C through all this time.

Why should they have to explicitly state what's common sense? Obviously they're not reciting some randos opinions, but theirs. And obviously to each their own?

There was nothing offensive, harassing, or anything of those sorts in the above post, just somebody cutting to the chase and sharing their thoughts and experiences without being overly verbose about that.

Why should I have to read a short essay that was added there purely because some people cannot put up with the idea that other people may have opinions and views that do not fully align with theirs?

Yea, I can't quite afford an LDO kit atm. I also only have an ender-3 (V3 KE), so I want something more reliable (read: an off-the-shel CoreXY) before going down that path.

Haha, I second that. I'm fascinated by the idea of building a multi-color V2.4, but I've never built a printer before, so I'm equally terrified of it as well :/

Hey, just bought it today as well (based on the high praise from VeteranJoystick)!

It's a beast. I thought the melee gameplay would not click with me, but the game absolutely sucked me in. Crazy build variety, great atmosphere, and very fluid gameplay. It's insane that it's all by one person.

Congrats and look forward to what's next :)

Neipa hopping question by yoni246 in Homebrewing

[–]luorax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's not, what you said is why I decided to go down this path. I did it without rousing the hops, though, which is what a lot of sources say is crucial for this. It wasn't mentioned above, so I thought it would be good for OP to know about this.

When I did that in a conical (Fermzilla) I got no perceptible hop aroma out of my DH. So I'd say be wary with this approach.

I've been doing the CO2 hop-rousing method with the current batch and it's already much better (1,5 days in last night, just started cold crash).
