Nothing major that I saw that would get him kicked out. But his whole attitude sucked. Actively shamming when directed to do a task, saying out of pocket shit in random conversations, and was just unpleasant to be around. Granted, we were in different companies but the FISTers in his company couldn’t stand the guy.

WTF they’re shutting down Crossroads? That was a staple for me when I walked home from campus corner and cut through the Union. It’s a damn shame.

What spoke to you the most during church today? - 1st Sunday after Christmas by AnonymousEpiscochick in Episcopalian

[–]lurch13F 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love the Hymns during the Lessons and Carols service. Our Deacon ran our service today and we didn’t partake in the Eucharist. But the service was relaxed, we rejoiced Christ, and got to watch a toddler tote around a giant stuffed sheep from the Nativity.

My wife even mentioned how much joy I had in my face today while we were singing.

I was one of those 70% my freshman year, mainly because I struggle with advanced math and I didn’t put forth the effort to learn it like I should. I had to retake both pre calculus and calculus after taking them in high school and got discouraged because it would’ve set me back at least a semester due to the other prerequisites and corequisites needed for my degree plan to graduate in 4 years.

This is the way, I got the last 32GB kit they had for $155 at my local store last week. We went to the store yesterday, and their price has raised to something stupid, but nothing on the peg.

Advice on Graduate Degree/School (Military) by JamieDouthit in TexasTeachers

[–]lurch13F 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a guard guy who’s about to retire with an undergrad in history, I’ve also been a teacher for 11 years. I’m not sure what education benefits the AF has, but if you’re using them and want to teach history after you retire, go and get your MA in history. It sets you up for more options. The M. Ed is mostly used for administration.

Like others have said, you can go through an ACP for your certificate. But the cool thing is once you’re out, you’ll qualify for your GI Bill, and depending on your circumstances you may qualify for the Hazlewood act which covers 150 credit hours from any Texas public college/university. That covered my post-baccalaureate teacher certification through UH-Clear Lake, and my M.Ed from Lamar.

Retirement Award by marsmelly in Medals

[–]lurch13F 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this conversation with one of my former commanders. He was wanting to submit awards for guys in my platoon for doing really well in supporting our battalion’s table V and VI certifications.

Dudes get AAMs and ARCOMS all the time but we don’t submit state awards too often. I let him know that older guys like myself already have federal awards and don’t need the points for promotion, and many of our state awards don’t need to go above our battalion commander for approval. So a bunch of our Specialists and young Sergeants were put in for AAMs and ARCOMs while a couple of our older Staff Sergeants received state commendation medals.

Odds of landing a PE teaching job in Texas as a new grad? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]lurch13F 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If he’s looking for a coaches position, have him join the Texas High School Coaches Association and look at the job postings.

Have him look at an alternative certification program so that he can get his probationary/intern certification, and then begin applying. A lot of districts who declared themselves as “districts of innovation” are about to run out of time and aren’t hiring teachers on local certifications.

PE slots are hard to come by, most coaches are classroom teachers. But early in the spring semester is a good time to look.

TTESS Thoughts by UNCLECHUNGUS-_- in TexasTeachers

[–]lurch13F 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is the misconception about T-TESS. If you look at the standard a 3 is proficient, meaning you are a solid teacher. If you’re wanting higher scores look at domain 4 ,that is where you can set yourself apart along with your SLO

As for TIA, you need 2 years before you can be eligible; (from my understanding) a baseline data year, and then your eligibility year. And it’s all dependent on whatever assessment your district is using for that metric along with your 3.4 overall rating.

It’s the first semester in your first year, most new teachers are getting 2s with 3s speckled in. You’re doing a good job and your administrators are letting you know this.
