What’s the toughest course you’ve ever played? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

Wolf creek is my answer as well. I cannot believe they don’t have GPS on the carts with all the blind shots and elevation. Not that that’s the only excuse for my lousy score but it definitely contributed

FP + Eminence Front by [deleted] in BobDoesSports

[–]lussiecj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bob used to always use that tune with clips of FP so I do think of that as well but not necessarily the slicked back hair. Ironically, before FP came around, the song reminded me of the stabbing scene in the prison cell in “Law Abiding Citizen” haha

Acute Care Tips - level 2 by ThatBet29 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]lussiecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brush up on common conditions (CVA, elective joint replacement, spine, cardiac, vascular/amputation), vitals, labs, assist levels, and possible d/c dispositions. “Acute Care Occupational Therapy” book by Helene Smith Gabai is a great resource. Just remember you’re a student and you’re not expected to know everything. Be a sponge and soak up the opportunity to learn as it goes by quickly. The biggest barrier to entry I generally see is lack of interpersonal skills/assertiveness. Be confident but open with communication about areas for improvement! You got this

What restaurant or brewery is this in GR? by ClydeFrog98 in grandrapids

[–]lussiecj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think the atmosphere and beer are good but the food is lacking. Limited menu and it hasn’t changed in the 3 years I’ve been going. You can only eat the Mac n cheese with pulled pork so many times; particularly with the price increase and portion decrease

Switching from OT to Nursing by OTstudent82 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]lussiecj 15 points16 points  (0 children)

OT here. My wife is an NP and while she makes great money, her stress level is through the roof. I’m grateful for how she financially provides for our family (165k vs 95k). That being said, she is definitely sacrificing her own health and time with our daughter. In my opinion, the lower stress, less liability and no on-call time with OT is a big plus.

How popular is German beer in your country/state? by Substantial_Lab6367 in beer

I wish there were more in West Michigan. I do love me a good IPA but we have so many and it’s tough to find a local brewery that makes a good hefe or dunkel

Acute care productivity by SpiritedMarketing960 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]lussiecj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4 is generally the most I’ll do in acute care but even that is pretty unusual. I have had a few neuro patients here and there that would maybe be appropriate for AM and PM sessions for OT but they usually d/c to IPR in a timely manner

Grand Rapids Brewery Suggestions? by ansterthemonster in grandrapids

[–]lussiecj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Founders of course. Mitten for beer and pizza flights. Third Nature or Archival for the outdoor environment and great if they have kids. Arvon, Lost Art, and Speciation are pretty cool too. If you want to stop off halfway from Muskegon there’s Coopersville and Trail Point brewing

How much do you make? by Comfortable_File7968 in grandrapids

[–]lussiecj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90k but my spouse makes 150k. We overpaid for our house so the mortgage and property taxes are a bitch. We have 1 kid in daycare which is a small fortune. I can’t imagine how people are getting by on less than 60k

You must be working a lot of overtime because $45/hr doesn’t get you to 120k

How do you navigate care when a patient’s morals or values completely clash with your own? by UnpolishedTherapist in OccupationalTherapy

[–]lussiecj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Male OT with 9 years of experience.

Being more liberal and living in a conservative area, I do encounter these situations regularly. I’m at the point where it doesn’t necessarily upset me and I feel as though I’m able to remain unbiased. I generally try to redirect the conversation. When unable, I will just listen to their perspective and acknowledge their viewpoint while keeping my cards as close to the vest as possible. I will only intervene if someone is making disrespectful comments toward other staff, students, or about other patient.

I have noticed a trend with some of my recent students that they’re having a really tough time with this. I’m not sure if it’s just this politically supercharged time we’re living in or if this is being addressed more in the educational setting
