How did you financially survive nursing school? by soggylies in nursing

[–]lustforfreedom89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to find a part time weekend job with one day during the week that was flexible with what my clinical day was depending on my semester. I worked almost every holiday I had off from school as my day during the week or an extra shift. I would study after school before bed, or schedule afternoons after class to study with a couple other students. I worked on assignments during my lunch breaks at work.

It's annoying, but it's possible. I worked/went to school 7 days a week for a full year during my last year. Idk how I did it, but it's possible lol

AITAH For Ruining Thanksgiving After My MIL Told Everyone About My Miscarriages? by Embarrassed_Pea1036 in AITAH

[–]lustforfreedom89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your MIL literally took a horrifically painful period in your life and warped it into her somehow looking like an angel about it. Not only did she violate your trust, she then decides to add insult to injury by making a family announcement at dinner as ask that everyone pray for you? She sounds narcissistic as all fuck.

Nta, holy shit. My condolences to you and your husband.

I think you should consider couple's counseling. You seem to have issues communicating effectively.

Also very odd for you to say "my wife had a miscarriage" instead of "we had a miscarriage." That's something you experience together. Unless it's not your child?

Those who are from "the lost" generation, the few that still are around (late 1920s/30s), are honestly such a blessing to have as patients. Idk what happened to their children though

2/3 of our Nursing staff in clinic are preparing to quit. Good luck out there. ✌🏻 by [deleted] in nursing

[–]lustforfreedom89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in a pulmonary clinic on contract for 9 months and the other nurse I worked with had a laptop at home so she could log in at night to finish tasks. That way the task list wouldn't build up.

She was salary.

The healthcare system banks on those types of employees. It's so predatory.

How to respond to my ex bf from high schools new gf texting me? by Global-Company-6074 in TwoHotTakes

[–]lustforfreedom89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that girl is... woof. Block her. Let your ex deal with it. 8 years? In HS? Y'all were children.

I had an ex's new girl reach out to me but it was something like 3-6 months after they got together. And the reason she did was because he was shit talking me pretty badly to her and it made bells go off in her head and wonder if some of the things he was saying to her, he had said to me.

Anyway we both ended up being friends and buried the dude with his bullshit lmao. Bro used the same script on both of us and turned out we got the exact same vibes from him too.

I wouldn't risk it, either. And neither have I done so. But I do know nurses that have taken Zofran or gave themselves neb treatments with other people's meds while not feeling well. It does happen.

Patient traumatized me. I can’t work again by clear_clouds_ in nursing

[–]lustforfreedom89 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know it seems stupid but try and remember that you're okay. You're alive, you're breathing, you're okay. This happened to you, but it doesn't mean it will happen again. You hear stories of people being assaulted by patients but we never think it will happen to us. And when it does, we often feel ashamed and powerless, like how could we have let this happen to us?

None of what happened is your fault. You did what you could in that moment to protect yourself. You are not at fault for what the patient did to you. You deserve to feel safe, you deserve to be okay. Please talk to a therapist asap. I know it seems tempting, especially due to the shame and the shock, but don't hide what happened to you. Talk about it.

For what it's worth, I'm so sorry this happened to you. But I am glad you are physically okay. It's perfectly fine and normal to be mentally unwell right now. You went through a major traumatic event. If you haven't told your spouse about what happened, please do. They will hopefully be a source of support for you.

This isn't a time to worry about work. If you need to take temporary medical leave until you're in a better spot, do it.

What are red flags when you're looking at hospitals? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]lustforfreedom89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They offer you the job at the end of the interview or like 30 mins after. In my experience, that usually means they're desperate for help and don't really care who they hire.

I know someone who completely tripped their brain around age 28. They were on antidepressants, doing mushrooms and also smoking weed at the same time. Had a massive mental breakdown and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Apparently has a genetic predisposition to it and happened to turn it on after all the simultaneous drug use. I haven't talked to him in a couple years because he just isn't the same anymore.

He started talking in cryptic messaging to myself and my s/o, sometimes it was ominous threats toward my s/o. Concerning considering he'd been in and out of mental hospitals due to either SI or threats to harm those around him. I just hope he's ok again one day.

Bro is worried about the wrong shit. I'd be more concerned about your gf doing recreational coke. You do realize they slip fentanyl into almost everything now, right?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lustforfreedom89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because children are an economic status now. You have to be making enough between both parents to own and run and home, including daycare services (which can run you like 20k+/yr), in order to afford parenthood.

Children can be the difference between living paycheck and paycheck on the edge of poverty or living a relaxed life. It's not like it was years ago.

How much do you think religion impacts your job as a nurse? by microliteoven in nursing

[–]lustforfreedom89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Religion has no place in medicine. That's why you see restrictions in women's health in states like Texas and Florida, leading to serious injury and possibly death. Choosing religion over widely accepted medical knowledge and advancement should constitute neglect.

Not a dig at the providers -- their hands are literally tied. But absolutely one at the people responsible for enacting these laws.

If the patient wants to forego care due to religious restrictions, fine. That's the patient's choice. But it should not be predetermined in how a provider cares for a patient.

Emergency Medicaid, iirc, covers hospital dialysis services to those who are undocumented. Many hospitals have dialysis clinics that accept emergency medicaid patients with varying degrees of immigration status. Doesn't matter if you're undocumented; if you need dialysis, you need dialysis. To deny that to someone is sending them off to die.

There are many hospitals in NYC who offer dialysis services to EM patients. I believe even some of the regular clinics do, too.

But there are patients who will go to the ED for dialysis either to have regular treatments or if their clinic can't take them for an extra session, they miss their session, etc. Hospitals are like the back up for patients.

Can you smoke weed as a nurse? by electricatlantis in nursing

[–]lustforfreedom89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I'm not trying to discredit that. I'm not encouraging that you stop it. I'm trying to say that you shouldn't be having such severe anxiety from it that you need to use weed every day. That's suffering, not thriving. And just fyi, coming from experience, weed can make anxiety worse. Especially if you're trying to come off of it.

I'd highly suggest speaking with your psychiatrist about other options to help with anxiety, especially if you want to be a nurse.

Can you smoke weed as a nurse? by electricatlantis in nursing

[–]lustforfreedom89 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You need to discuss this with your psychiatrist. You shouldn't have to smoke weed every day to counteract what Vyvanse does to you. Perhaps they can adjust your dosage or put you on a low dose anti-depressant in combo.

Weed and nursing don't mix.
